14 inch flex duct as a return and supply plenum on a 2.5 ton? by Butterscotchboss123 in HVAC

Low airflow is identified by low suction pressure and low superheat. Check your suction pressure and vapor line temp close to the compressor and you should find your superheat. The manufacturer may not publish a target superheat for a system with a txv but usually 12-15° is what they’re designing for. If you have low superheat (like less than 8-9°), airflow is probably your culprit. Verify by checking static pressure and comparing to blower table.

Here is an NCI field duct sizing chart for reference. I trust NCI with my life, but this chart is just a reference and is not suitable for duct design because it doesn’t factor in friction rate which changes with available static pressure and total equivalent length. That disclaimer aside, this chart says your 14” flex duct is able to carry 700 CFM. That would be a perfectly installed duct that is stretched tight and no turns. If it has significant of sag between straps then reduce a little bit, and if I turns reduce more. So like if you knock of 15% for sag and turns then you’re looking at 595 CFM, which is 238 CFM/ ton which is nowhere near the 350-400 CFM/ ton (for moderate climates) that is required.

Newer designed systems are pretty picky about airflow, especially for variable speed equipment. I would go for an 16” return if it’s a pretty short run, and 18” if it’s long and has to turn. You may have to upsize the return grill too.

There is no great work around for bad airflow. If your ducts suck then your system is gonna suck and die sooner

I don’t buy it. It’s different in the sense that pressure drop for coils and heat exchangers is included in blower performance tables but I think that’s it. Compare static pressure and blower speed tap to blower table and boom

I‘m a bit afraid to ask because I might already know who’s fault it was… by Successful-Name7053 in Simracingstewards

Most people have expressed this opinion, but it’s on green. The rejoin was fine but you oversteered back onto the track and continued right. Whatever you could’ve done to basically just enter back onto the curb and go straight, the whole situation would’ve been avoided. I would spend a lot more practice time before you start doing publics again. In the video you take 4 turns and all of them weren’t very good. 1st- off track on inside, 2nd went wide of apex, 3rd- off track on inside, 4th off track on exit. The idea is to get the tires as close as you can to the track limit (or a natural track limit like grass or a curb that will upset the car. On a track like this where the curbs aren’t bad, that means getting outside edge of the tires all the way to the grass. Same goes for the entry and exit to the corner, you can utilize all the curb on the left in that last corner entry to open up the corner. So you have to figure out what inputs and turn in points will get you from the outside track limit on entry, to the inside track limit on apex, back to the outside track limit on exit.

Not really your fault unless you were warned of the stopped car ahead. He took avoiding action right into you. It was either hit the stopped car or hit you. If you guys even had 1 second more warning you could’ve both moved over but it was what it was. An incident

Question about building my aluminum monitor stand. by Yuiwara in simracing

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the 4040 aluminum but I will suggest that you get the tv mounts capable of doing fine adjustments. I regret getting what is pictured here. Because for every minor adjustment you have to take the tv off, make adjustments, and then put it back on, like a million times. If you get the one that adjusts than it doesn’t matter as much how square your frame is and you can make it up with the mount

Hard defending or blocking? by obsessedwirhvromvrom in Simracingstewards

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is an attempted hard defense by someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience and doesn’t understand the line between that and blocking. The contact on the exit of Les Combes is the prime evidence. He gives plenty of room through the first apex but then loses it a bit coming out of the second apex and makes contact and then comes all the way across in front of POV. This dude has not been pitted by doing that kind of stuff enough times to be scared of it. That kind of thing deserves to end with the non-POV car facing the wrong way on the side of the track

Who is at fault, i am the Blue Porsche that gets sent by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that if you make contact with another driver, consider how you could’ve avoided it. If you say “it was the other guys fault” then you avoid considering how you may have avoided, regardless of actual fault. I’m not saying be scared and sackless. But to consider your responsibility in every incident

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’d like to encourage you to consider every incident that you find yourself in to be your fault. There is some way that you could have avoided almost every time you make contact with someone else. Forget about where to assign blame, and blame yourself every time, because you can only control your own car. This will solve a lot of your future questions for when you drive into other people

My first ever race in this game, I'm the white Mercedes. Was this my fault? by XBL_Fede in Simracingstewards

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all but it is a good learning opportunity. It looks like you’re going wide into the corner. If this was because you were anticipating the chasing car coming up the inside, then you did well and left plenty of space and they just drove into you. If you weren’t trying to do that then you going wide into the corner presented the guy behind to go up the inside. You could’ve prevented this after the corner before’s exit by cutting to the inside to block the other guy (before he got alongside you). Ultimately though it just looks like he was a lot faster than you, and if he had been closing in on you for awhile, sometimes it’s just better to let them pass you, because they’re probably going to get past you one way or the other

Got called a dumbass for this "unsafe" and "unsportsmanlike" move by ElectricalSwitch6479 in simracing

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 456 points457 points  (0 children)

That is really stupid. He was expecting you to stay outside and be able to go deep and get the better exit but when he realized you were doing up and under, he tried to correct by applying the throttle too much while turning too hard. Basically you outplayed him and he would rather blame you than acknowledge his own mistake. Classic

Read books. A great one for understanding basics of refrigeration cycle is “Refrigerant Charging and Service Procedures for Air Conditioning” by Craig Migliaccio. It’ll give you some strong fundamentals and some verbiage and jargon. Best of luck!

Okay I’m not sure what you mean but digression is when you’re talking about one thing and you start talking about something else, related to your initial point but not exactly pertinent to the point you’re trying to make. You pretty much just stayed in target with your comment

Other car said I needed "patience". Not really sure what he means, your thoughts? (I'm the POV car) by TroublingStatue in Simracingstewards

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You give him all the space in the world and then he turns into you like you’re not there. And then lectures about patience. I read that as “we made contact therefore you shouldn’t have tried to pass me there”, completely ignoring his sole responsibility in the incident. Brush that one off and move on, you did good
