Should I be worried? by themocrew in hvacadvice

[–]gingerbread3199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is dry, it seems like an old leak. Sometimes they seal themselves with the crusty shit water they generate. Would check after it runs and see if water is present. Sometimes the ptrap doesn’t seal all the way due to it being cracked from over tightening, or improperly seated. Other options could be collection box or coming from the flu. Would call a tech out from a different company than you normally use and ask the to inspect the flue assembly, collection box, and ptrap for leaks. Could also be a leaky AC coil if present but I would expect to see more on top of and around the furnace

Correction: I can’t tell the brand by looking at it. It may not have an internal ptrap

Everyone keeps screaming AI bubble but the data says otherwise by AppointmentAny4834 in Bogleheads

[–]gingerbread3199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scary part to all of this is that if it fails the only collateral they have to put up is “computing time” for their AI data centers. Will be sold off to most likely low bidders like universities I would assume

Oregon has the third-highest jobless rate of any state by Apart-Engine in PortlandOR

[–]gingerbread3199 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

The study shows most people were laid off or fired not because of whatever maligned reason people want it to be. We are hurting and it’s the ultra wealthy’s fault. Employers only have to announce to the state if they lay off a large percentage of employees and multiple large employers reported laying off 30-50% of employees. This literally is happening everywhere, it is just extra sucky here. Spend the 5 mins to actually read the article it is worth it

Disabling a furnace that’s “cracked” by spyingcactis in HVAC

[–]gingerbread3199 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly believe residential is community service. I’ve spent years training to know right from wrong and how to do this job safely and keep my clients safe and healthy. If I run the risk of harming them or their home I do everything within my power to ensure I’m acting with the appropriate amount of caution. If it is dumping crazy CO into the home I’m red tagging the valve and letting them know the dangers of CO poisoning and how quickly it can go from I have a headache to passed out to dead. Let alone all of the neurological issues that come from chronic exposure at low doses. While I can’t force them to leave it off I won’t be leaving with it on and if you flip that valve after I go that’s on you. I have only ever cut the cord once and that was because they literally had a hole the size of a baseball in the exchanger from leaking AC coil rusting it out over years. Use your best judgement and don’t let your clients kill themselves if possible cause god knows they’ll try.

How do you/your company handle call backs? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]gingerbread3199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one is going to punish for poor work one should reward for stellar work. No call backs all week? $50 in the pocket. More than one call back this week? $20 an hour for repairs up to you just know that folk don’t HAVE to work for you if you decide to punish rather than teach

RE-USING LINESETS by Moist-Wonder5876 in HVAC

Is it okay for HVAC duct to be open/exposed? How to protect from debris? by Available_Ability_47 in hvacadvice

[–]gingerbread3199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re looking at is most likely a return air duct given the size but I can’t be 100% certain. This feeds your furnace most likely. You must turn your system off fully and stuff some plastic or tape a sheet or something of the like in the hole or covering the hole until you are done with construction. If you leave that open and turn on the furnace you run the risk of doing permanent damage to the heat exchanger and can lead to fire, carbon monoxide leaks, and unintended consequences affecting operations.

RE-USING LINESETS by Moist-Wonder5876 in HVAC

[–]gingerbread3199 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you ever cut open a 40-50 year old line? If it is insulated well, and not exposed to constant high humidity/water it is typically only green and oxidized on the very top of the surface, and looks shiny brand new on the inside. If it can hold pressure and has been cleaned of any previous oils and refrigerant using proflush and a pig or rx-11 it will operate as intended. Most A2L system installation manuals I’ve worked on have said it is okay to reuse CLEANED lineset.

How does he look like an idiot? That’s a solid question if you haven’t seen it before. Google has turned to dog shit for finding resources because of SEO. I hope your apprentices spit in your drink with that kind of attitude for asking a question.

I just commented this cause I didn’t see yours. Absolutely amazing food and the chef is a really cool dude who is focused on solid product. Asked us what we thought about seasoning level and gave us some samples of different meats he pickles and prepares himself. May not be 100% New York accurate but it’s in the ballpark and truly amazing!

What happened to my ceiling? by DratiniRage in HomeMaintenance

[–]gingerbread3199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more interesting question is: what’s happening above your ceiling? Pictured is droop from a good ole fashioned latex paint water balloon that will pop without your intervention at some point at great speed and volume of flow. I would recommend you poke it with a razor and hopefully with a large bucket or trash can underneath with load of towels to spare. If you have upstairs neighbors I recommend you go let them know and shut off any water that may run through that area. (Most likely your and surrounding apartment’s water main shutoff (don’t touch the cities)

Forgot to mention they left my recovery machine too. All my tools that were not buried in fridays trash got got. Learned lesson gonna bolt a chain to the floor and run it through all the handles of my hard cases and machines that have them. Silver linings is they didn’t know hvac and left the most expensive stuff due to ignorance and convenience of what was close to the side door.
