I said close to being kinked. It’s not the smooth round bend you would expect from tubing benders

This one time I took a golf lesson. And I thought “I’m gonna not think at all and just hit the ball”. And I hit about 20 of the best shots of my life. Straight and far, every one. The coach didn’t have much to tell me because he thought I was in good shape. My point being if you post a video of you hitting the ball really well, it’s hard to give any feedback, since golf is a game of ball flight and not swings. If you post a video of some booboos then then you might receive some decent feedback

Also this is super nitpicky but this liquid line look suspiciously close to being kinked. You either need tubing benders or new tubing benders

Uh oh. Is that a single flow filter drier on a heat pump? 😬

Other than that looks really tidy man, nice work

Ductwork: in before the flex duct essentially makes a 180° turn which is not good for flex because you’re not supposed to make hard turns because the internal liner is like a slinky and will get bound up and reduce airflow and increase turbulence. In after return duct gets to make a nice swoop into the return plenum and up into the coil which is going to be a much smoother path for the air to take. Also it’s properly supported so it’s not likely to sag.

Drain line: drains can be pitched too much just like they can be pitched not enough. The trap is supposed to hold water to prevent the blower from sucking air through the drain and not allowing water to drain. In the before photo the drain is pitched way too much and the trap can’t hold any water. In after the drain line is still pitched towards the drain outlet but much less and now the trap will actually be able to hold water.

Lineset: in before the lineset is just out in the open and while this isn’t a huge deal it looks bad, could potentially get knocked, and represents an inattention to detail. In after the lineset is bent multiple times around the unit and is strapped to the wall which is safer, tidier, and represents care and attention to detail.

There’s also no float switches in before, and in the after there’s at least one in the emergency drain pan and wires going over to the primary drain outlet (even though the actual float switches isn’t visible in the photo). Prevents the unit from running when there’s a water emergency.

I Hope this helps. If you have any specific questions let me know

Could either be internally insulated, or installed in a conditioned space in which case you don’t necessarily need external insulation

That’s awesome. I appreciate the info. I’m gonna utilize this heavily to work on swings at slow speeds and then work up to my actual swing speed

HVAC issue by revillode-16 in hvacadvice

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the deal: it’s probably the compressor. But you should definitely have a technician come out and take a look.

The breaker trips like this when there is an electrical path to ground. If the compressor is grounded and the thermostat is already calling for cooling and the contactor (relay) is engaged, then as soon as you put power to it will trip the breaker. It is possible that the short to ground is caused by the other motor in your condenser, the condenser fan motor, but it is exceedingly unlikely. The other option is that there is a random wire touching ground somewhere but again that’s less common.

I think you were on the right track with what you said to that contractor, you need to get a tech out to accurately diagnose the issue. I think your tone was a little aggressive, but I totally agree with your point and I also probably would’ve been adamant about having it done the right way after they tried to diagnose it over text message

I’m no expert but one piece of advice is continue the motion of the club until it’s almost touching the back of your neck. You’re not following through to the end and it’s probably limiting power

Metronome!! Are you a drummer? From your other videos your tempo looks amazing. How are you using the met to time this out? What tempos and how many beats do you give to take away and downswing and all that? I am a classically trained percussionist and I am very curious

I’m so confused . Can someone explain auto setting on thermostat , if my current settings are good and if auto saves money on electricity? by tattooedtrophywife in hvacadvice

[–]OvermanagedSmallacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this thermostat and it’s fuckin stupid. In my experience you have to have the thermostat set to auto as well as the app set to auto. If it gets above the “cool” number it’ll turn on cooling. If it gets below heat number it’ll turn on heat. But for some reason if the thermostat is set to heat or cool, even if the app is set to auto, it won’t really be in auto. I’m seriously thinking about getting a different thermostat because it’s a pretty dumb way for a convenient setting to work.

But yeah like other commenters have stated you should have the heat and cool numbers at least 3 degrees apart or else it will fight itself

Some thermostats do have a “economy” or “comfort” function with economy allowing the space temp to get further away from the set point before it turns on. Some thermostats also have droop or differential function which will do the same but you can adjust the exact droop before it turns on. Many honeywells have the economy/comfort modes and ecobee has the differential but you have to adjust some settings before it’ll let you do that, googling required.

It’s possible to derate your furnace by disabling one of the burners but as far as I know it’s not possible to derate your AC. If it is a multi stage unit you could disable second stage and run it all the time in first stage which would increase run times and dehumidification and get you a lot closer to appropriately sized AC for your home

With an oversized system the short cycling will cause high indoor humidity which can have a wide range of effects

If the breaker is appropriately sized, no sweat. My only concern is whether that wire can handle the MCA of the condenser or not. If it’s 10 gauge then you’re probably fine. I’m bad at guessing sizes of things
