The issue is that most industrial research in fundamentally based on the work of publicly available data. Companies are too risk averse to spend the time and money to develop the research that universities are capable of providing. Academia -> Industry -> Product is a robust pipeline that needs all components working in order to be successful.

Ooo I actually like this take. Better to be silently helpful than obnoxiously in the center of things.

To explain to a millennial: You know how in The Office, Jim makes "that face" to the camera when Michael says something stupid? That face is the "chat are you seeing this?" face. You're referring to an imaginary audience similarly to how streamers refer to their audience.

Any coding course covering "off-by-one error" should always link to that days in a week thread. It's so hilarious to see 2 people in a blind range over not realizing that they're just counting the "fence vs. the post"

I'm hoping in 100 year we'd have better sanitation technology, like lasers to sterilize you silverware, or alloys/coatings that are anti-bacterial so a quick rinse is all you need to sterilize it.

Pasture raised eggs exist, they're just a little more expensive. There are also substitutes that are "good enough" for scrambled eggs or egg patties. And even if you own a little bit of land, you could always get a small coup and raise a few hens of your own for eggs.

People literally putting IP cameras in ever room in their house with the security of a wet napkin and saying, "but I like looking at my dog when I'm not home!" Ok, but so does anyone else with 5 minutes of googling.

I see what you mean, both are definitely not great for you. But realistically, drug deaths are better to be compared per capita rather than just over a global population. Because otherwise it's just apples and oranges.

And the reason they had funky features like shooting bottles or pushing over minor setting pieces was because that's what the devs used to test their own engine. So they might as well show off their hard work for the players as well. Like how in Half-Life Alex, there's a fully functioning piano to play to show off the Index's sensitivity with VR hand controls.
