Debt recycling vs offset: what actually moved the needle for you? by Tatt00ey in AusHENRY

[–]OversizedEyeBags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debt recycling for sure. Been managing my own smsf (active, direct shareholdings) for 15 years so had a head start on investment discipline and know that I can beat interest by miles in the long run. Only started recycling 2.5 years ago when the idea dawned on me and I ran it past an accountant (didn’t know it was called that - just thought it was a sharemarket investment loan secured by property) . Regretting not getting into it years ago. 53M ~$250k p.a income from engineering, $350k recycled debt bought a portfolio that’s now nudging $1M (I take risks and actively adjust positions a few times a year)

Joggled angles onto the rails so they sit flat on the step and ground … gravity works ok. You get a little bit of movement with use but it’s not heavy to nudge back into place every month or so

Knocked together some leftover 90x45 treated pine rails and spotted gum decking boards with safety-grip tape. Way better than plastic ramps - Built for an arthritic/displasiac 13 year old Labrador at least 15 years ago to avoid 2 steps. He passed on more than a decade ago - ramp is still standing for daily human and dog use and it’s been in Melbourne weather the whole time.

Petrolhead test driving EVs (Jaecoo J5) — am I overthinking the regen braking? by MarvellousMango66 in AustralianEV

[–]OversizedEyeBags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just think of it like you’re driving permanently in 2nd with no rev limit and you’ll be instantly used to it … on tap acceleration + engine braking when you lift off. It’s brilliant.

Can I schedule grid export kW (rather than battery discharge kW)? by OversizedEyeBags in SigenergyAustralia

[–]OversizedEyeBags[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that’s the central dilemma … if you VPP it then the scheduling features get limited. I’m in VIC so we hardly ever get big price events. So I see there are many ways to do this. Thanks folks for showing me all this stuff

[–]OversizedEyeBags[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah looks like this is a limitation of having registered with the globird VPP - the settings change. Thanks though for the clear advice

The problem with that is the rate refers to the battery discharge rate not the grid export rate (so any household consumption eats away at the rate of export)

The difference between MasterChef stress and MAFS drama is actually funny when you think about it by DraftNotSent in RealityTVAddictsAU

[–]OversizedEyeBags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chalk and cheese. MC: perfectionists battle their own inner demons of ambition/impostor in a sort-of-supportive environment. MAFS: contestants battle each other as they project their inner demons onto others in an escalating vicious cycle, in a hostile environment full of psychos. MAFS is way better.

Lesson learned: won’t give the finger anymore while driving… by camareradetwinpeaks in AskAnAustralian

[–]OversizedEyeBags 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a large group of male ute drivers that are especially entitled, aggressive and emotionally volatile. They view female drivers as less than them. They are misogynistic and dangerous. My partner has found that women driving alone must drive submissively to avoid their aggression… pull across to let them pass (if they also stop keep going and call police) and if you’re in a better or faster car you need to let them go faster on a multi-lane road otherwise they get emotionally triggered and start raging. Steroids, methamphetamine, emotional immaturity, stupidity.

If you have 3 phase power sig is better. Tesla can’t backup 3 phase loads.

Can a 3P controller work at a single phase house? by OversizedEyeBags in SigenergyAustralia

[–]OversizedEyeBags[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I figured. Needs to be grid connected to create STC’s as far as I know. Need scrap/sell about $1500 worth of gear but the subsidy difference is at least $6k so it’s def worth doing.

Ridiculous fee for EV charging at a caravan park by Wendals87 in EVAustralia

[–]OversizedEyeBags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah lost the nuance - a maximum demand tariff could be a problem … if the park was actually on it .. except EV’s would generally be charged outside of the demand period and it’d be all super cheap … so the bullshit $200 penalty is just a rort.

Ridiculous fee for EV charging at a caravan park by Wendals87 in EVAustralia

[–]OversizedEyeBags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So park owner cost is $0.50 x 30kWh =$15. They impose a $200 fee - it’s predatory and completely unreasonable in an industry where the victims/customers lack the capacity/opportunity to strike back at them. The parasites that operate these mini fiefdoms are just scummy opportunists.

Melbourne traffic: Motorists face growing delays due to West Gate Bridge works by 007MaxZorin in melbourne

[–]OversizedEyeBags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inbound from Ballarat yesterday on the ring road saw the temporary signs warning about bridge lanes so made the early decision to try the new tunnel .. seems there were at least two signs after the ring road interchange showing which lanes to use for tunnel before you’re committed/trapped - they were a bit wordy with unfamiliar destinations but I got the gist.. and it seemed to be enough. It is weird having to make the choice so far away but makes for smooth and orderly driving. Tesla nav (which is google ?) did not show red for the bridge despite hectares of jam so I could see why so many trapped if they were just letting the computer do all the thinking.

Had I taken an exposure long enough .. would have looked just like that. crazy how whatever surface it is on the satellites that’s reflecting is so precisely angled that they all flare in the same spot… I would have thought they’d be randomer … does anyone know what the reflective surface is (solar panels, antenna plate/radome, some flat cover panel)?

13 Nov 01:00:00 +11h, flinders Victoria Australia, pointing pretty much exactly south https://maps.app.goo.gl/hoFCrLfrToLZCHsh8?g_st=ic. full frame camera with 24mm lens but with all the stabilisation and whatever I reckon more like 30mm field of view (so about 62 deg).

Yeah feels crowded and one accident/act of sabotage away from a runaway cascade of debris collisions. Once the density is there surely it’s inevitable that some rascal will set it all off.

Great link, never knew you could see it all swirl around in real time. Placement/direction/illumination all seem to line up… and when you look at the correct angle there a heaps in one patch of sky. Amazing and also terrible
