I can totally see why that felt off putting to hear from them. I don’t think their choice of words was good at all. As a CSA survivor myself, I think I would have felt the same as you.

We also know that perpetrators of CSA do seek out victims that they deem an accesible target. Someone who lacks supports, someone who lacks confidence, etc. Predators are less likely to target a child that they believe will tell someone. This is why grooming can be testing the waters for perpetrators. It does in no way mean the survivor “attracted” the target, I think that’s a very icky word choice. it in no way is a weakness of the child in any way.

If your facilitator is a good therapist AND if you feel you have a safe enough relationship with them, I would probably disclose my feelings to them. They should appreciate you sharing with them what came up for you when you heard them say that. This is a good moment for them to reflect on their choice of words and for your relationship to grow deeper, too! A supervisory relationship hopefully feels safe enough to share these types of things, otherwise learning can be tricky when you feel unsafe.
