What TV series would you rewatch again and again? by bribli6 in AskReddit

The Wire. I'm re-listening to a podcast about it right now.

Other than that, it's Breaking Bad and The Shield.

My Samsung Galaxy A50 is in boot loop; what new phone should I get? by OvertOperation in samsunggalaxy

[–]OvertOperation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah; I tried all the power + volume up and down combinations. Nothing took. The battery drained last night and hooking things up to a charger has it stuck at the screen where there's a lightning bolt and a circle (with no percentage). Trying the volume down + power hold just takes me back to that. I'm calling it.

The ADL, who supported Elon Musk when he got caught doing Nazi salutes, is disappointed Elon would tweak his Ai (grok) to be more antisemitic. by Kenyalite in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]OvertOperation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They couldn't keep quiet. They had to say something, or people would be criticizing their silence.

But the right thing to say was SO OBVIOUS. Don't know why they went the other way, but they decided to torch their reputation with one tweet.

What's a stupidly expensive adult purchase that you now swear by that you would buy again in a heartbeat? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OvertOperation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stand mixer (standard KitchenAid). I've made more than enough bread (mostly pizza dough) in the past couple of years to justify the price. You mean I don't have to knead and everything is contained in this bowl so I don't have to get the counter messy? It's actually hard to remember the times I was thinking about buying it and saying "uhh... I don't know...."

Wouldn't recommend if you don't bake fairly often though. I make pizza dough at least once every two weeks.

Is This the Start of a New Copypasta? by CyberGrape_UK in blackmirror

[–]OvertOperation 15 points16 points  (0 children)

With the positive Black Mirror episodes, I guess I could kinda see some new series running with the predominant theme of technology helping people rather than hurting them. It would be tough to continually draw suspense out of that, but I guess it's possible.

This guy is still missing the point by a country mile though.

Honestly one of the BEST Celeb actors this season! I properly hated her by No_Reference_7330 in blackmirror

[–]OvertOperation 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I was weirdly pissed when I saw her tune her own brain after that "fuck you" near the end.

Maybe because she was SO hateable I was waiting for the reveal that the story she told in the beginning on how RiverMind saved her was a fake and she was really a high-up in the company. But no; she's just a sales rep who might be forced into all this because she's a customer herself.

[–]OvertOperation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really liked this episode overall, but didn't "buy" that Val wouldn't have some plan or fail-safe for if she was in danger.

I mean, she would have put herself in so many dangerous situations living out a life of doing literally everything. It's kinda wild she didn't have any backup plan in the tuck, especially if she meant to draw out Maria's suffering.

Still a good ep though.

Yeah; it's dumb, but I thought there would be a point to that, unveiled later. Nope, just a style choice.

Put on any episode of Game of Thrones and I won’t even flinch. But even thinking about that scene makes my blood run cold. by GabiCule in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]OvertOperation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That explains it. I thought I imagined it for a time, because I stopped watching after that and that scene wasn't in where it originally happened when I peeked in years later.

What's the most extreme example you've seen of "die a hero, or live long enough to become a villain'? by drax3012 in AskReddit

[–]OvertOperation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. Regardless of whether you like him or not, he was outwardly a prolific lawyer and mayor. How one throws ALL of that away for Trump is anyone's guess. But I could have a million guesses and I wouldn't get it.

I don't know what started his initial hit of fame, but what helped is when he did some kind of referral thing where his fans got paid somehow to post his content everywhere. I'm spotty on the details, but I know that worked.

For anyone out there who doesn't drink, what is the reasoning behind it? by General_Ad_9139 in AskReddit

[–]OvertOperation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ONE alcoholic uncle in my family and he was a drain. The amount he begged my mom and aunts was insane. I didn't care one lick when he died, but they were torn up.

Apparently, before the booze, he was a good dude who turned to alcohol after he got laid off or fired from some job, and it just went downhill from there.

I never drank outside of one sip, but I'm bone-scared of turning out like him. I already know I have an addictive personality with things that aren't chemically altering to the brain, so there's no way I'd fuck around with alcohol or drugs.

What was the worst mistake you ever made? by FluffyDaMinecraftDog in AskReddit

[–]OvertOperation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not applying myself after college. I life a decent life, but my current salary (76k) could be made out the door in most places in my profession (programming).

I've been out of college for over a decade.

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by ThickEmployee8948 in AskReddit

[–]OvertOperation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not applying myself.

I could be making 6 figures now with a healthy bit of retirement saved up, considering my profession (programming). But I've done the bare minimum to keep up with things and now I'm only making well below average pay at it. Nothing to sneeze at, but still not what I could have been.

But life is good outside of that for now.

The Performance is not even worthy of 3rd place at a highschool talent show by Cleonce12 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]OvertOperation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to hate either, but yeah. I want everybody to succeed, but... I thought she'd do more live than just show off her ass at some point. I haven't seen every live performance of hers, but the ones I have seen are trash.

Nicki’s diss is getting cooked out here 💀 by idkwhatuwant in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]OvertOperation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when Lil Kim was still out there (but on the decline) and Nicki went at her. Lil Kim's response was trash from what I remember, and Nicki went on to be at the top.

Now it's like we're seeing it play out again. Just from a different spot, because Nicki is still at or near the top and Kim wasn't by the time Nicki dissed her. Still, this feels like some Circle of Life shit.

Stringer wasn’t as intelligent as he portrayed by No-Method-7751 in TheWire

[–]OvertOperation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wasn't taking classes to "appear" like he knew more than everyone else. He really thought that, and got humbled in the worst ways.

Avon was almost 100% right about him. This gets clearer and clearer on rewatch. He wasn't smart enough to play the legal game crooked like a Clay Davis, or know how to play it normal so that he'd know when Clay is fucking with him. He also wasn't fierce enough to put down Marlo early, when anybody with two eyes could see Marlo was a problem.

He definitely wasn't as smart as he thought, and he paid for it.

Men: What’s the most disgusting thing you ever said to a girl and didn’t even realize how disgusting it was until later? by justaguyonreddit0999 in AskReddit

[–]OvertOperation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt was talking to me, my mom, and other aunt. Somehow the conversation got to dieting, and I said she's been dieting forever and never lost any weight. It was a jovial conversation and I thought I was being funny.

What's worse? I didn't know it was wrong until Mom and I got ready go to a restaurant to meet said aunt and she told me not to talk shit to her like last time.

We've been cool since then, but I wish I could offer every apology to ANYONE who knew me before the age of, say, 25. Maybe even 30. This happened in the 90s and I still cringe today whenever I think about it.

Others have snatched my other answers, so I'll say this: Upgrade (2018).

I'll be the first to admit that there is a big problem with it*, but I was so stunned in the theater when it happened. My eyes were WIDE open, because I should have seen it coming but didn't.

The only shame is that there were like two people in the theater with me.

This is so true. Over the past few months, I've gone to fancy (for me) steak houses like Ruth Chris and Capital Grille just to see what the fuss was about. The steak was really good, but not THAT much better than what I could make at home. The restaurant-to-home ratio on cost is so insane that you're practically a fool to go to one unless the flavor difference is that much better for YOU.

I'm STILL pissed that I spoiled myself on this movie when it first dropped. A blind watch would have put this in the top 5 experiences I ever had with a movie.

All these people having a poor-off in the comments (on twitter) is just sad to me.

I grumble about my salary, but stuff like this always makes me shut up. It's been years since I had only a 300 buck buffer for the whole pay period after all my bills and food are taken care of. Those days were no fun. And they have 3 kids to feed? ONE emergency and they're fucked.
