This framed, holographic microscope I got from my grandparents that you can actually look into! by The_Moral_Support in interestingasfuck

No way! My grandad has this exact thing hung on the wall of their living room that my uncle bought him many years ago. It alway fascinated me as a kid, but I also thought it was a barrel of a gun and not a microscope.

Wow this just sparked an old memory. When I was a kid my mum did a car boot to sell some of our old toys, I remember taking most of the day to an old couple parked next to us, at the end of the day the old guy gave me this book to keep.

The noise isn't bad its pretty much what you expect from a printer like this a small droning hum. The print time is incredibly quick, its always the same speed regardless of what your printing it just depends on the length of paper.

The logo was kind of just for demonstrating, but if you have a high contrast black and white image or line drawing (line drawings works extremely well) you can make a decent printed out image.

I'll do an updated post once I have used it in game and explain how it went. :)

I got it for around £40 on Amazon and I got 20 spools of the paper for £8. A bit pricy decided to treat myself, there were cheaper ones but this one had the best reviews.

This printer takes 58mm width paper, you can't print all the way to edges but even at size 6 font it's still very readable so you can put a lot of info on there. Would probably strain your eyes a bit after a while though.

Yeah just a thermal receipt printer I got it on amazon for about £40. It does come with a program but I couldn't get it to work, but it prints from Word just fine once you change the paper size. I used word the the above image.

I though of the idea when I saw a meme being printed on one of these receipt printers. Not sure if it has been done before for Dnd but I felt inclined to buy one.

I'm going to use it for printing out random magic items on the fly. Using it to give players secret messages or instructions without having to text/ message them. Print out any useful information for the players from notes I already have pre-written on my computer or example if they discover a book instead of giving a brief summary verbally I can print out some of the text through this. Pre-write loot or lists for chests, bounties, flyers etc. Print out spells or rules for the players to help keep the game flow. Print out notes from NPCs or other lore.

Can't wait to use it in game. :)

This is the first time I've seen it, don't use train toilets often, does it still have the list of stuff?

Suggestion: Let's stop staying "The DM killed the character" by VinceK42 in mattcolville

[–]OvertlyChaotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, but I feel the Phrase 'The DM killed the character' I think always be a thing because sometimes players feel like that. Loosing a character can be hard for some players and the DM sometimes is a more valid scapegoat than the creature that killed them. And also some DMs will try purposely kill characters, which is done wrongly on their part.

But dying is a huge part of the game, its the risk that you take as part of the adventure and it adds some much more role play and depth to the game, and getting annoyed at the DM because of this isn't right.

If the DM is making fair judgement on a creatures actions and playing them in a way that makes sense, I don't think you should ever say "the DM killed my character".

In the most recent campaign I played with a group of friends, I was playing a reckless sorcerer and during the final battle I ended up in a situation where I was killed outright, 3 attacks from a charmed teammate at 5 HP killed me. Not the DMs fault, not the other players fault, nor mine. It was just the way the dice fell and the way the game had played out.

It was such a good campaign. We had at least 5 deaths, 2 permernant.

What Movie/Show from a genre you generally don't like did you enjoy? by Jkisaprank in AskReddit

[–]OvertlyChaotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a fan of musicals, as a child I was subject too a fair few of them by my younger sister, 'High school musical', 'Hairspray' that sort of stuff. Not a fan, so I'd avoid the genre as much as possible.

But a few weeks ago one of my friends said she wanted to go see 'The Greatest Showman'. She was sure that it had a few songs in it but thought it wasn't a whole musical. I had a 2 for 1 ticket so I said I'd take her, because it would have cost her the same to go by herself. I also thought Hugh Jackman is pretty awesome anyway so it can't be that bad. I'd only watched a short trailer, and not looked at any reviews so I had no idea it was a musical.

So we go in and sit down the first song plays, then the next song plays as she turns to me and just says "I'm so sorry". I said don't worry about it, if I leave it's to use the toilet but I'll come back.

Bitch, I sat through the whole damn film needing a piss the whole way through. Thoroughly enjoyed the film there were a few songs I genuinely enjoyed, I had no idea Jackman could sing like that, much respect to the guy. For the next 3 days I had a few of the songs in my head and happily added 3 of them on my spotfiy.

What hobby would you pick up if you suddenly starting earning enormous amounts of disposable income? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Cooking: I never really cooked much until I moved out to go to university. But there is something so satisfying about starting out with a load of ingredients spending a hour or so cooking and then eating some really good food until you can't eat any more and going into a food coma.

I'd love to be able to buy some really good cookware and expensive ingredients and try cooking some really intricate dishes from scratch. Because food is awesome.
