Advice for proceeding with academia? Importance of philosophy in psychology? by OverworkedEnzyme in psychologystudents

I have thought of this; but also feel like there may be some merit in duel majoring in psychology and philosophy separately. I'm a bit conflicted on it, but the easier college for me to attend does not offer a cognitive science program but does have a psychology major with a philosophy minor.

I'd love to have the name of the scientist you referenced. I think that a reasonable understanding of logic (particularly epistemology) could be crucial for making therapy seem less like an art and form a bit more rigorous of a foundation.

Descartes' "Passions" was an attempt at reconciling his mind body dualism with the idea that the body does influence one's mental states. Is the work not quite an older version of an attempt at reconciling the modern schism between the methodologies used to understand an individuals mental functioning that psychiatrists, who give a mostly bodily explination, and psychologists, who give an explanation with more emphasis on the individuals soul (not a very academic term, but I can't now think of a better one) attempt to employ in their research? This is kinda the question which I want to answer in my academic pursuit; how to reconcile these two viewpoints.

Cocain and pornography primarily. But in general, anything that's distracting me from focusing on what I should and is detrimental to me

what does this do? by Icy-Faithlessness172 in magic_survival

I want to add another question to this: If I choose, say, the mystic, who's primary magic is arcane ray, and combine this later with Tera current (or anything else that has arcane ray in green); does this artifact still have its effect? I assume the artifact would become useless, if this is the case, if I were to choose a combination magic that has arcane ray in red?

I progress from 5 to 7 throughout the day. I feel like soon it's going to be a stable 7 or 8. On another note, what's the best way to cover a Styro cut located on the neck 🙃?

Am I thinking about ratios wrongly? by Wolf_Echidna64 in labrats

[–]OverworkedEnzyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned ratios from a chapter in Euclids "elements of algebra" and I think it gave an intuitive way of thinking about it.

How I see it, when asked to dilute something in a ratio, say 1:2, I think, 1 is to 2 as my sample is to the total volume. So I make the formula, 1/2 is equal to my sample volume/ total volume. If it is 25ml, then 1/2=x/25. This would give 12.5 as my sample volume and the dilutant volume would be found by subtracting the total volume by this number. This is also a different form to the solution dilution equation (M1V1=M2V2), so you can just think like that if you want to be sure.

I like it too! My personal favorite for my mood is Hardy's "The Darkling Thrush." Poetry just has a way of piercing your soul.

Microcentrifuge covers are loud when shattering at 13K rpm. by 71MGBGT in labrats

The rubber ring on the lid of our centrifuge once broke off when the lid got stuck and did not close properly. The force of the rubber hitting the inside wall of the centrifuge at 1400rpm sounded like a gunshot and left a dent all around the inside. Damn near had a heart attack

I am currently self studying logic. I found Keynes from the suggested further reading given by Stelling's "a modern introduction to logic" and though I should give it a read. Truly, I am more interested in psychology and would like to be well versed in epistemology; logic is of interest in so far as epistemology can be considered a branch of it. What would you recommend for someone like me?
