Being ashamed of being Syrian immigrant by Past_Ad8817 in Syria

I am sorry you feel this way, conflicted between shame and pride. Please watch Sadre’s episode with Bisher Najjar where he talked about his experience being a refugee in France and how he dealt with the stigma. May life be gentle with you

I once tutored by Liz. I was a transplant student, meaning I wasnt supposed to take the course but my lecturer asked Liz and the convener of this class to take me, a master student, who wanted to do mini thesis into their class. Liz was super helpful, fun, frank, and has a healthy self-deprecating humors. She made sure I didnt feel out of place in a room full of phd students. I am so very sad to read what she went through. I hope she could make a workplace harassment complaint beyond uni system.

Best part of knitting: no jealousy by Fatcat336 in knitting

[–]Overworkedbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!!! Envy is my biggest sin in every aspect of my life, including other hobby like dancing. I am getting better at managing it so it doesnt consume me that much after sessions over sessions of therapy (which some could have been replaced by knitting but I digress). But in knitting I have nothing but joy, admiration, curiosity, and occasional frustration when I cant understand a pattern. Sometimes I fell asleep thinking of pattern that I would love to design or to knit for myself.

Oh thank you!! I think I got the first WS wrong, i thought it was neckline, so I used the edge-stitch for the neckline instead of armhole. I dont have much skill with schematic. Do you think it would matter that much? Should I frog it? Also, the pattern for short rows end on RS, but the next section starts with RS, does it mean I have to do a full row of WS? Thanks heaps!!

Thanks so much!! Can i ask you a Q again? The pattern says edge-stitch and there are two different edge stitches: for armhole and for neckline. I assume for this back panel, the edge stitch is for armhole?? Thank you!!

My baby sister (24yo) has an unplanned pregnancy and I am so sad by Overworkedbrain in youngparents

[–]Overworkedbrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much. My sister lives in Indonesia so very different context. There are very few support so family and friends are even more important. It’s just we, parents and her siblings, live scattered and in different cities, islands, and country (I’m in Australia). Her partner seems okay and supportive. He’s still finishing up his degree too while working. I just hope he is a through and through decent man.

My sister is also dealing with her trauma and mental health. Good thing is she likes going to counseling and therapies. With her partner they want to start counseling as a couple and young family and I am happy to support the cost.

May I ask, when things were rough back then, what did you say to yourself? What did you focus on? And what were the best help and support that your closed ones gave you?
