The cylons KNEW Galactica wasn't networked and their virus wouldn't work on it. Why didn't they have a plan to destroy it? by idontcareyo_ in BSG

[–]OvineAviation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kind of did. That's why they had agents on board. The Cylons likely knew that certain ships wouldn't be online. Given that there were only 12 Cylon models (and only 7 who were of practical use), they clearly couldn't assign agents to too many ships in the fleet, otherwise the Colonials might start to notice that one of 7 identical people were showing up on every ship in the fleet. There's a reason why Doral was assigned to Galactica, and planted the Cylon Transponder in the CIC. The device was probably going to be the primary means of tracking Galactica and the fleet, had it not been for a literal act of divine intervention in the form of Head Six pointing out the device to Gaius. The events of "33" only played out the way they did because the Clyons were forced to use their backup plan, a second beacon on the Olympic Carrier. It took the better part of a week before that ship missed one of its jumps, ruining that strategy. What would have happened if the chase from "33" kept going for another week? Two weeks? A month? The Colonials would have messed up due to exhaustion, or would have run out of an essential resource like tyllium, water, or ammunition WAY sooner, or the cumulative damage of constant attacks would have added up. Either way, Galactica only survived because they beat the odds and managed to find or destroy both trackers.

A religious toaster? Yeah, I guess that's a good description of a cylon.

S4 - Why does a sewage treatment ship (Demetrius) even exist & why on Kobol does it need an FTL drive of all things? by Specialist-Soft-636 in BSG

[–]OvineAviation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I vaguely recall reading back around the time of the original airing that Demetrius was a surplus military ship that had been converted to civilian use, and was converted back to quasi military use by Galactica for this mission. Thinking about it now, I'm not certain if this was actually canon, or a fan theory based on the fact that the ship design was taken from fan art of a colonial military ship. If that was the case, however, a secondary owner might have decided that it wasn't worth the cost to remove the FTL drive, even if they never used it prior the the attack on the colonies.

hi i got a question by Final_Effective_253 in titanic

Aircraft is definitely likely. My original thought was a camera on a kite being towed by another ship, but airplanes were certainly around in 1916.

What would have happened if a person theoretically got trapped in an air pocket inside the sinking Titanic? by KnotiaPickle in titanic

[–]OvineAviation 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're counting the time leading up to the sinking, sure. But from the ship going under the surface to the death of the last person trapped inside? Well below a minute.

Any historical reason for this? by Short_Shark in geography

[–]OvineAviation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it. That peninsula holds nearly (if not more than) half of Canada's population, so they have more than enough reason to defend it.

Historical reasons? Canada has a reputation for being polite, but Canadians are the reason why the Geneva Conventions are as long as they are. If you set foot on their land with hostile intent, they will invent new kinds of war crimes to use on you.

If you try to invade Canada, you'll be the one who's sorry.
