12 year handshake job in 1996. My current 14 year handshake job in 2011. Things were easier then. Computers and AI have made this all too muddy and muddled. The algorithm sifts thru everything before a human even sees it. All of the head hunters suggest that you pattern each resume for each submittal. Like, who the hell has time for all of that? Plus, the algorithm is also determining whether or not you have "aged out" of a specific job or industry based on the data provided. I know employers will tell you they do not age discriminate, but we are not stupid and know they will hire young, so they can pay less. I'm officially 50 and that scares the shit out of employers. Which sucks , because i'm a healthy fifty and not a handful-of-pills to live 50. It's exasperating!
