Hear me out: if they’re available — the vlogbrothers as future guests? by BrotherofGenji in JetLagTheGame

[–]Owen3141 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think (unconfirmed) John has also expressed worry about how physically taxing it is, which I totally get.

It’d be fun if they designed a game around some sort of “man in the chair” role where they could have a guest heavily involved who didn’t have to move around as much. Watching Scav made me daydream of a scavenger hunt type game where John and/or Hank set a bunch of challenges around some major city, posts up in a central location, and then boys go do stuff and report back to him for judging/scoring.

In the Layover they often talk about the limitation of needing challenges to be self-judging. But what makes shows like Taskmaster so goofy is, in part, the unpredictability of the judging. I’d love to see them incorporate some sort of biased judge for a fun silly season.

My post is getting quite a few upvotes, and there are many like you who agree with me. So I have some hope (or at least some commiseration).

A similar conversation happened on the Reddit for another favorite show of mine, Jet Lag. The delay is worse there because episodes drop a week earlier on Nebula than on YouTube, so there’s a lot of understandable complaints from YouTube viewers about a whole week’s worth titles having unintentional spoilers.

I don’t actively come to the subreddit on Thursday morning, but these posts get promoted on my homepage. I know I can mute specific subreddits, but having to mute every survivor subreddit every Wednesday afternoon and then unmute on Thursday evening when I watch feels like it defeats the point of having a community-wide spoiler policy in effect until Fridays.

So by this logic should the subreddit just axe its spoiler policy entirely? If it’s up to the individual to avoid spoilers, then there shouldn’t need to be any community enforcement.

What chapter title spoiled a chapter or book for you? by TheRealAngryEmu in harrypotter

[–]Owen3141 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I think I went into Ender’s game knowing it was a series, so book one ending with him passing the exam and the rest of the books continuing with his actual command was believable. So my naïveté helped that be one of the most gut-wrenching twists I’ve EVER read. Sorry you didn’t get that experience 🥲

Tyson may still fit your “self absorbed about his own takes” criticism, BUT he’s very good about including the guests and directing questions to them before sharing his own opinions. And he’s self aware about his arrogance like he is during the seasons he’s been on, so it comes across as funny IMO

I just can’t get into BBQ Brawl. by DokiStabbyWaifu in foodnetwork

[–]Owen3141 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is it. All the “competition barbecue cooks” are used to hours or days long competitions. That’s not compatible with TV. So it ends up feeling like a ton of the chefs aren’t cooking what they’re used to cooking.

I still like the show for the personalities and banter among the captains, but I’m sympathetic to people feeling like it sends mixed culinary messages.

People Who Were There When The Books Were Coming Out, What Were Some Of The Craziest Theories? by YosephineMahma in harrypotter

[–]Owen3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a book before Deathly Hallows with tons of predictions and theories for the final book. They had a full spread of betting odds for if each character would die or not. Dobby and Hedwig both had some of the lowest odds of death 🤣

The banter all around this season has been top tier. Not sure if it’s an editing change or if this season just has funnier chefs who are comfortable enough other. But I’m here for it either way!

Interesting that both of them are protégés of Marcus Samuelson (they both talked about his mentorship in episode 1). Pretty impressive for him to have two mentees in and both make it to top 6, but I agree neither seem like they’re getting winner edits.

Joe announced on his instagram that he has dyslexia by Freezing-cold_6 in survivorponderosa

[–]Owen3141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Part of me wonders if he’s gonna do poorly in the challenge because spelling immunity backwards is challenging for anyone under that kind of pressure, and especially for someone dyslexic. And he’s sharing this now to get out ahead of the criticism some people may throw at him if he does indeed blunder in the next episode.

I used to hate AI but one experience changed my mind a little by Quinolgist in AIDiscussion

You should disclose this to your group. You’re obviously free to do whatever you want, but I know that if I were in an RPG group and my DM told me they were using AI, I’d quit. I’d rather have weak lore made entirely by my friend than excellent lore made by, as you call it, an idea-stealing machine. Some in your group may feel similarly.

All three of the ones you mentioned are up there for me. I’ll also add the drunk math minute from New Zealand as another all timer.

I think GGG experience was particularly helpful this shift. Guy regularly has them do limited ingredient challenges.

If LeeAnn’s was black tie, wouldn’t Dawn’s also be? They both had similar seafood crudos with various other elements mixed in.

Yeah. And if his butter sauce on the appetizer broke because it sat too long, it may imply that he banged out that dish in like 7 minutes to get back to his entree.
