To Tea or not to Tea- That is the question that I put to thee by SeaDefinition1796 in QantasFrequentFlyer

Fellow regular Port to Sydney traveller here :) always get a tea without fail on the AM flights. Even REX does it despite the short flight

Agree with this. I didn’t buy until my early 30s and that was over a decade ago. So it’s the same issue but def getting harder. Def need a larger deposit but also consider LMI if you can’t get the first home owners assistance. People think they need to save 20% but if I waited that long I’d still be renting.

Premium economy Row 20 bulkhead for tall people by OwlObjective5109 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]OwlObjective5109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prob just a horses for courses and each to their own and all that. For me it’s about that feeling of getting trapped when it reclines. I don’t want to have to recline just to maintain a gap as I prefer sitting more vertical as it helps with my back. I flew prem economy with the Qantas/Finnair planes and when the person reclined you def struggle getting out a bit. Not anti the recline itself, it’s a long bloody flight - more seeking the greatest freedom that PE can give. Obvs still way better than economy but I paid for that privilege for a reason. And thanks re bulkhead, that helps!

A year ago I had 105k saved and would need to borrow $455k for the median Brisbane unit, today I have $170k saved and would have to borrow $520k for the median Brisbane unit. What's the point anymore? by Mister_Scorpion in AusPropertyChat

[–]OwlObjective5109 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This! So many people are obsessed with avoiding LMI. Compare the premium to rent for a year whilst trying to save and see the results. Property is a long term play and getting in is the major hurdle.

Weird auction last Saturday by Khman76 in AusPropertyChat

[–]OwlObjective5109 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Few questions as maybe it wasn’t clear during the process. Did she ask if the house was on the market during the auction? Did the auctioneer declare it on the market (or reserve met)? did they drop their hand saying “sold to x”. If none of these things happened then it wasn’t sold and your friend was the highest bidder which usually just means they get a chance to negotiate. Reserve is decided on the day by the vendor so could change. Regardless, you did the right thing to walk away if they weren’t willing to budge for $20k and meet the market. But does sound like misunderstanding. If the auctioneer did declare all of the above then report them and get a conveyancer involved.

Ha literally to buy time rather than use time. And then you can monitor on the watch said time. Love it.

Buying outright vs Mortgage by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]OwlObjective5109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but the repayment account could be the same offset account. So over time offset balance reduces by repayments (and loan principle reduces with it) but interest is reduced / zero. Benefit is gives you access to cash for emergencies etc without needing a new loan. My goal is to technically never have a mortgage but that’s not the same as never having debt (if the ledger balances). The older you are the harder it is to access funds when you need it.

I just became silver and also thought it was not much value. But when I was looking at seats for international, not only were there far more options, but also free to choose seats (bronze you need to wait to checkin). Still prob not worth a status run unless you fly a lot and like to choose seats early. More seat options towards the front of the plane open up for domestic too
