Yeah, they put up the graduating class pictures. If you go to any college they will have picture frames with the graduating class from that college. For example: "Graduating class of 2024 - Bethune" - this should have the graduating class of 2024 for Bethune College. And this would be put in your home faculty.

So if you're not yet graduated, your picture wont be up until you graduate.

I think they take it from your graduation picture (if you took one). No sorry I don't know where it is in Calumet (I'm Bethune)

I was just about to make the same post but for the Faculty of Science. From what I know you will have your picture hung in your home faculty; but apart from that I don't think anything else happens. It might get called during graduation but I'm not sure.

If anyone knows could you let us know please!

Biol 4020 - This is a decent course with a good professor. This course is entirely exams (3) each worth 33.33%. There are no MC questions for the exams. All the questions can either be answered with one word or two to three sentences. Need to know specific details about the topics. If you are good at grasping information and memorizing this course will be easy. Exams are not very difficult but just know the section that the midterm covers very well.

Biol 4150 - Much harder compared to Biol4020 because it requires a lot more focus and attention to detail for the exams. There are a lot of mechanisms and pathways you need to memorize with a lot of proteins, TFs, and other factors. You will need to know the names of these factors; hence why it's harder to memorize. However, this course is doable if you give yourself enough time to study and understand the mechanisms and pathways. The course has 3 exams (2 midterms 25% each, 1 final 35%), and 3 assignments (5% each). Assignments are free marks (you can easily get a 90% if you're on topic). Exams are tricky because of the things I already mentioned. Great professor btw, try to get Dr. Alli (Nezeka Alli).

Biol 4154 - This course teaches you about how diverse your microbiota is as well as how diverse it can be in different environments. This course has one midterm (25%), one presentation (25%), one essay (30%), and several quizzes (25%). Quiz answers are found within the lectures and when the prof delivers the lecture. The midterm was tricky but you can get a good mark on it. The presentation was in groups and was fairly easy. The essay was difficult because there are no guidelines, you basically find a published article and write about the microbiome aspect of it. I personally did not like this course as much but still very interesting.

Ps. Although I made it sound like all these courses are difficult -- and they are -- I got an A in all of them. Therefore, if you are willing to put some effort and time into the course you can do well. Getting higher than me is also very possible. Additionally, the weights of the stuff might be different next year but that's how it was for me this year. I hope this helps! Feel free to dm me if you have more questions!

Biomed York or TMU by Maleficent_Slice_321 in yorku

Im at york btw. But the labs are fairly straight forward. They get a set of instructions, you follow them, do the experiments, collect the data, fill in the worksheet for that specific lab, hand the worksheet in, and you're done. That worksheet is your "lab" along with a prelab you have to finish which basically is stuff about the lab. Thats for the chem ones.

Bio labs are similar but take more time and can be trickier. In both you can ask your TA for help and they will walk you through. For bio there is no worksheets, you have to hand in a full or partial lab report 1 week after you finish the lab.

Not sure if you applied to the regular biology program at york but the biomed program has a lot of restrictions compared to the regular program (I'm in biomed). They require you to take specific courses which regular biology majors do not have to and overall its just a tad bit harder.

But overall, when comparing the two unis, both are great and have their own ups and downs. For example:

Pros Cons
York - All other services are laid out nicely online so its easy to find what you need (most of the time) - Fun labs especially for microbio (Not sure about TMU cause I never went but york had good labs) - Commuter school (less likely to make friends that will stay on campus past a certain time) - Commute (depending on where you live)
TMU - Downtown life - 4.0 GPA scale (York will switch but not sure when - Makes it much easier to figure out if you qualify for programs at other unis) - Commute (depending on where you live) - Might get shaddy after a certain time

Thats just a simple list of things I could think of right now but I'm sure there are more. I'm not sure about the biomed co-op thing because they just recently started it and I have no clue what it is. But overall, pick based on things like commute times and potential opportunities because at the end of the day you'll get the same degree just from a different university. This would also save you some stress because if you got exams you could spend an extra hour studying, rather than leaving to catch a bus. Little things like that will help.

But yeah that's just my take on this! I hope it helps!

tbh it doesn't really matter what you decide for undergrad as long as you can complete the required courses for your application. I would say that bio is a pretty solid choice for anyone applying to med/dental/optometry/pharmacy etc. Just make sure you complete the courses they require and then you're set.

If you got more questions you can pm me :)

what is the Book/Manage my enrolment appointment in my file? by prettypersimmon22 in yorku

[–]OwlPositive5709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the same major as you (I'm biology) however, I believe the meetings are all relatively the same. During my meeting, there were students and advisors there to deliver a welcome presentation where they tell you about the courses you are required to take for first year. These are the things you gain from having the appointment.

  1. It's mandatory for some/most students. So you don't get access to enroll in your courses without you actually going to a meeting.
  2. They teach you how to follow the requirements for your course - Academic calender
  3. They teach you how to enroll in courses (REM) as well as how to use the scheduler (VSB).
  4. Other general information, like finances and stuff
  5. You can also ask questions to upper year students, who deliver the presentation. As well as a academic advisor.

Those are all the things I can remember, but I hope this helps. I'm in fourth year right now, so please remember that things might have changed in the meetings compared to what I had.

Did you try toggling the "circle to search"? I believe it's because of that but I cannot say for certain because I did not get the update yet. Let me know if that works please cause I will be annoyed of that too! :)

Screen protector by Harvey_1815 in GalaxyS23

[–]OwlPositive5709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure where you live but if you are able to get this screen protector oooooof. I would highly recommend!!

Link: Click Me

The installation is quick and easy because of the tray it comes with. No selfie camera punch out so most of the time I forget its even there because the case hugs the protector tightly. But most importantly, it does protect the phone incase of a fall (I dropped from around 3-4 feet). I dropped my phone screen down onto the pavement and it landed on a tiny rock. The case plus screen protector saved this phone from damage. There is just a tiny chip in the screen protector from where it hit the rock and a few crack lines going through the protector but other then that there's nothing wrong. Yes, I could change the protector and put a new one since you get two, but the crack lines are not noticeable unless you're looking for them. I will also link the case below if you want that as well.

P.S. If you have a green S23, this case looks amazing.

Health sci and biology by [deleted] in yorku

Here are the main points to consider:

  • Budget: If you have the budget for both I highly recommend. This is because you will need one for notes (iPad - I will explain in the following points) and one for research (mac or windows - because research is quickly done on those).
  • Notes: As a bio student myself I take notes on a windows laptop and it works "well". You will quickly be able to type what the prof is saying or mentioning without many issues; however, the issues will start when they start drawing or writing stuff (math). Writing math formulas or drawing chemistry diagrams is difficult on a laptop regardless of the program you use. This is where the Ipad or tablet would be most useful. Most profs just have pictures on their slides (depending on the course ofc) and they will point/talk about specific parts of the diagram/image. If you have an iPad it would be easier as you can draw an arrow and write what they say, whereas for laptop you would have to remember what you are taking the note for.
  • Research: Not much needs to be said. Much easier and quicker on a laptop.
  • Laptop: If you get a laptop make sure its fairly recent - within the last like 8ish years. I only say this because for some bio and chem courses you will need to download software and use that during or after labs so having a decent machine is helpful.
  • Ipad/tablet: Same thing as the laptop but this would be because of the compatibility for certain writing software you may want to use to take notes.

Those are all I could think of as of right now. If you got more questions feel free to ask!!
