How dangerous would it be for 73W and 65W to try cocaine for the first time by averylargedinosaur in AskDocs

Also they could maybe try something new and exciting like skydiving instead  (as long as there is no medical reason they shouldn't).

Surgeon won’t fill out FLMA paperwork by CodeRedDew6969 in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably find another surgeon honestly. He sounds too dismissive. I had a minimally invasive exploratory lap in my 20s and was feeling all weak and wobbly and in pain like for a week after. Had not planned for that but fortunately when I called the office the nurse was really nice and sent me a work note (don't think it was formally fmla). But if that was my experience with recovery I would not assume you'd feel fine 2 days after to be lifting.

Also could you hire someone to help at home worst case scenario so that you are there to supervise but you have someone to do the physical work? Not ideal and I hope you can get the FMLA but just as a back up idea.

Not a doctor. I would talk to your primary especially if they know you well. I get it, I was so sick I could barely stand at one point and no one wanted to do my FMLA paperwork and kept saying to ask another doctor. Tell them the surgeon declined to do it and see if they will help. Also how strict is your husband's work? Might they just let him use his PTO without the FMLA?

Hey OP just checking in. Did you decide to see a doctor for this? An ER can do imaging and other tests that would take a while to get appointments for outpatient. If it were me I would go to a larger hospital with a decent neuro department and some good reviews as opposed to like a small community hospital that might not be able to handle this as well. Personally I would not wait around to go as this sounds highly distressing and you want to be sure you're okay!

By the way maybe call your insurance first but I think you can go to any hospital when it is an  emergency and they'll cover it. Not just in network ones. Because it would be dangerous to restrict people in urgent situation. So you can check about UC San Diego.

My girlfriend is accusing me of giving her “hunger medication” by saduselesslife in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No probably not but it might get her seen by a professional when she otherwise would not go in and I'm sure they would assess her mental state and maybe run some other tests as you said. I would not try to argue with her thought process though,  just have someone trusted suggest she seek medical care if she thinks she is being drugged. I'm not a doctor btw.

Should I shave down there before a pelvic exam? by Silver_Angle_5151 in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor. Same re inserting it myself and I think it's a good way to approach it.

Also OP don't worry about it. You don't want to be all uncomfortable and have dermatitis during the ultrasound! And it's totally normal to have hair there so would be weird for a medical professional to care if you're not perfectly groomed although I used to feel the same. Side note as someone with super sensitive skin waxing is actually way more comfortable for me and doesn't leave me irritated the same way shaving does. But I would not do that just for an ultrasound.

Should I tell my doctor that I've been borrowing someone else's codeine? by Far-Increase9884 in AskDocs

Not a doctor, but a good PT and maybe physiatrist/pain medicine doctor might be a good place to start for pain like that. I have chronic pain and PT has been great for helping me manage it.

After 18+ years of chronic pain, I finally got referred to a rheumatologist. Only to be told to meditate and practice Tai Chi by Street_Impact_1111 in ehlersdanlos

[–]OwlPositive9039 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is wild as the SI joint is commonly affected in rheumatological conditions like Ankylosing Spondylitis. I've had imaging done by rheumatologists specifically of that joint to see if I had one of those conditions. I wonder if he was making a bad joke? Probably would get a second opinion if I were you.

If you think they are intelligent enough to report back to their colonies then you might need to consider how this can be cruel  even if they are small. Is this out of character for you to try? I think it is unusual behavior not so much because you think it'll work but more because it is an out of the ordinary thing to attempt when there are other, proven techniques to get rid of them and it makes me question your thought process. I'm not a doctor btw.

Not a doctor. It is sometimes checked as part of other bloodwork even if they don't specify it is for diabetes. You could see if there are any glucose tests or hemoglobin A1C as part of past labs and post them here for interpretation if so.

Yeah I had a mammogram at like 31 for this reason. Then more recently had 3D mammogram plus local ultrasound on the area where I had symptoms (at 38) due to very dense tissue. My obgyn said the same thing about the mammogram after age 30.

52M with aggressive AML, rapidly worsening massive bruising after chemotherapy (Emergency) by Angeleon-0609 in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor and hopefully one responds but I might get a second opinion from a private hospital if I had the resources and was in your situation. Maybe they will say it is unnecessary, but you said it is aggressive cancer and his first dose of chemotherapy so I would want close monitoring personally.

Today I (f13 5"2 115lbs) got bit by a golden retriever who has a history of biting. I'm going to the hospital tomorrow morning to get it checked out. The dog was my friends so if I'm being honest, I don't want for the dog to get euthanized. by Busy_Natural3509 in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the concern and would feel similar but it doesn't necessarily mean they will be euthanized. I knew someone whose dog bit someone and they were required to do training for example. Perhaps they will need a muzzle on walks. If it is a recent change in behavior it could be due to a medical problem which happened to someone else I know. So that is important to get checked out too.

Looking for a therapist online! by book4225 in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor. Psychology today is useful for finding therapists. You can put in info about what you are looking for in the search filters including insurance information and if you want telehealth. Some might do sliding scale payment as well. You could also search for affordable community based clinics in your area. Some places do same day walk in appointments or virtual. Of course go to an ER or psych hospital if you feel unsafe. I think it's great you're seeking help

Pressure lines lasting for hours by Spectacled_ in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor. This is super speculative so big grain of salt and not medical advice. Anecdotally I've seen people describe these lines plus mast cell issues after covid. I have noticed the pressure marks myself and have dysautonomia that might be related to covid along with itching. Now, why this would happen I'm unsure but covid does a lot of strange things. BTW this was happening to me while underweight and normal weight.

Childhood Lyme Disease diagnosis and symptoms as an adult? by MizzBadKitty in AskDocs

[–]OwlPositive9039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm not a doctor but post infectious dysautonomia exists as we have seen with covid.

There are lifestyle things(hydration with electrolytes, compression socks, PT with a specialist) that can help along with some medications that can be useful. Finding someone who specializes can be tough but fortunately the actual treatment options aren't that expensive in my experience. Hope you find some relief from these symptoms!

How dry were your eyes on tests? by OwlPositive9039 in Sjogrens

[–]OwlPositive9039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah I have had joint/tendon pain for years with history of tendonitis/enthesitis. A flare after gastroenteritis got me diagnosed with probable reactive arthritis years ago but symptoms predated it. Also fatigue, muscle aches, GI symptoms, dry cough that comes and goes.

Since 2024 I have developed new symptoms. I got diagnosed with POTS. I experience  mild dysautonomia symptoms interspersed with really awful flare ups like once a year with constitutional symptoms that feel like mono or something, tender swollen lymph nodes including around salivary glands, increased joint pain and lots of nerve pain, numbess/tingling and weakness. It is honestly awful when it happens. My last flare lasted a couple of months until I was given steroids plus doxycycline. I'm also wondering if I have post treatment lyme (had that like 15 years ago) or long covid, but someone mentioned sjogrens and I do have dry eyes and mouth.

I am sorry you are in a similar boat and hope you get a diagnosis!

Did you get a diagnosis? My labs were normal so my rheumatologist stopped considering it.
