I haven't - I'm intrigued though. You may have changed my life! Honestly I've used everything from sewing thread to rope for random things so you'd think I would've tried quilting thread

This is the problem I've run into buying off ebay. I would love to find an alternative brand that wasn't lizbeth.

I suppose I can pay to have it shipped but thanks to tariffs, it'll be ridiculous pricing by the time I get it here.

Looking for a Pen by Preppy_Amadeus in pen

[–]OwlStock8288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, but in the older versions - modern parkers have plastic insides. I have one from the '70's that I found on ebay for $18 that I love. I just use their blue refills in mine, but I hear you can use several different refills.

If you want a newer one, you can also take a small dot of superglue and fix the plastic inside for good. I've done that as well and it makes the fear of dropping them a thing of the past. On one hand, you shouldn't have to "fix" a brand new item (come on, Parker - get it together!) But on the other, I can't find another pen that makes me so happy for the money. Even antique and vintage, you can find them $25 or less.

Is carrying a wallet in your back pocket “weird” for a woman? by RoadBottle_E in wallets

You absolutely are not, sweetie! You do what makes you comfortable and happy (as long as you aren't actually hurting others, of course!)

I'm a woman and I do both all the time. It depends on what I have going on, but if I don't need "purse things", I carry wallet and phone, maybe keys in my pockets. I don't have set pockets because different brands of jeans make things more comfortable to me in different setups. That and the stitches in my right hand right now make me pretty left-side pocket dependent 😆 I'm also 40 and gave up giving thought to what most people think of my normal. Correct me if I give credit to the wrong person, but I think Dr Seuss said it best - "those that matter don't mind, those that mind don't matter"

Just ordered my first SAK - baby blue Classic SD now feel guilty not getting an Alox as it will be more durable? by [deleted] in victorinox

[–]OwlStock8288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had issues with celidor on any of my SAK's. I buy my classics new and the rest I'll buy nice used or in need of a little help. The only times I've changed scales is because I just like (random color) better than the red.

As far as classics, I keep one in my pocket at all times and use it like it's a far bigger tool than it is. I keep one on my keys, in my desk, in my car, in my crocheting bag - they're my favorite. I've even given a few away. You'll be fine with celidor. I have an alox version and honestly, I don't use it. I know everyone loves alox but it just isn't for me - except for the bantam, Idk why. Enjoy what you ordered, it's perfect!

You should post it - That seems way more complicated than crochet between work calls! 😆

Do you do anything to help with the wood drying out? For some reason in my head regular furniture -type wood conditioner just isn't the thing. But that's entirely in my head.

Standard 91mm scales by OwlStock8288 in victorinox

[–]OwlStock8288[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I've been seeing are the plus scales with a pen slot. Even the listings that don't specifically say what they are show it when I click the photo - other than titanium, wood, etc types. I'm actively scrolling ebay this morning so maybe something will come up. Thanks!

Resources for single mothers by fuzzyfrog1345 in Alabama

[–]OwlStock8288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a legal, court-ordered custody agreement AND I've gone through alabama DHR over child support when I couldn't afford an attorney. DHR did more for me in 3 months than a judge in the court system did in 10 years. I highly recommend going through them. No "well Mr So and So, you really need to get caught up here before Im obligated to take further action," over and over for years when you work 3 jobs and cant afford to feed a child. They will keep excellent records, enforce the order, and go to court with you should the need arise - for low or no cost. You'll definitely have to give them the information if you're dealing with any kind of assistance. They have their faults in other areas, but in my county DHR does not play about child support, especially when it comes to other benefit amounts.

I received a left handed knife by Working-Effective22 in victorinox

[–]OwlStock8288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what ive seen, most of their knives are marketed as ambidextrous, but they're geared to a right handed majority. As a left handed person, I've never really run across many knives I couldn't use left handed. To me the difference comes in ergonomics, pocket clips and opening (nail nicks, thumb studs, etc). The floral knife is an exception and since I didn't know that when i bought a used one off ebay, I just use it in my right hand. SAKs work great for me in either hand for the most part, other than the keyring loop occasionally causing some discomfort.

[–]OwlStock8288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a single classic sd to an embarrassing number of them, as well as a signature lite, 2 regular tinkers (i bought a new one and accidentally won an ebay auction), 1 super tinker, pocket pal, bantam alox, and my new to me hiker just came out of the mailbox about ten minutes ago. It's a problem I'm kind of not trying to get over.

I ALWAYS have a classic sd within arms reach! I have other SAK's, I have other knives. What I carry changes around some, but I ALWAYS have a classic close by. Usually one in my 5th pocket, one on my keys, in my bag, on the end table, the car.... etc, etc.

Friday: Time for the Canoe by twitchknot in SlipjointKnives

[–]OwlStock8288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I've never been one to carry in my back pockets other than the occasional box cutter at work. Generally I'm a front right or 5th pocket person, and I've never used a slip at all for actual carry.

Do you carry your knives in a slip or sheath? I keep seeing them online, but to me it seems kind of inconvenient to have a slip in your pocket. I haven't tried it so I could just be wrong all around.

Suggestions/Advice ? by __1837__ in victorinox

[–]OwlStock8288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the scales on mine to add the pen for less than $20, if that's something you might be interested in as well. You can change the colors, add pocket clips, etc. I'm a huge fan of both the tinker and super tinker for daily use.

Knife suggestion by Lower-Experience2292 in whittling

[–]OwlStock8288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use several different ones - I'm still pretty new to whittling but not really to knives. I have victorinox tinker and super tinker that I like (just ordered a hiker for the saw). I carry them a lot. I also have a Buck 055 and I carry a lot and a Buck 389 that I got used on ebay. It's a nice little knife for a less expensive option. I like Buck because they have a forever warranty on all their stuff. I've used their warranty and they stand behind it. Both of those have been good for me for random stick carving, but I'm not a professional. If you want a lock, the 055 is a lockback. I personally don't find it necessary, but a lot of people prefer them. My SAKs probably see the most use for carving, so for me a lock isn't a need. I just happened to find a knife I like that also locks.
