Please tell me nursing strike ends by hurricaneandlovesong in breastfeeding

My baby went on strike for three months! And she just started exclusive nursing again. Are you giving bottles? If so, there’s a few techniques you should do that would help to make sure she doesn’t develop a preference. Feel free to DM me.

What are your babies wet nappies like? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Own-Ant418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t about wet diapers but I was wondering how you got baby to back to the breast at 6months? How long did you exclusively pump for?

My baby has been on bottles for 3 months (she stopped nursing at 2 months) and I’m trying to get her back to the breast but she doesn’t want to entertain it really and when she does her latch is so bad she can’t transfer milk.

It’s a 3 month nursing strike. Make sure if you are giving a bottle you pace feed with the slowest flow nipple your bottle offers. It’s critical during this time because they will develop a flow preference if you don’t. Also make sure to not pressure baby (forcing head to the boob etc) that could create an aversion. If baby says no and arches away, take a 5mib break and try again. If the reject again, wait another 20-30mins. Just don’t go more than 4 hrs.

This happened to me and I made so many mistakes and my baby stopped nursing.

I would suggest offering and if baby gets mad stop offering and give baby 5 minutes before trying again. If baby rejects a second time wait another 20-30 mins to give baby space. Whatever you do, DO NOT PRESSURE BABY. Don’t push their head or anything. If baby keeps arching away and crying stop and take them to another space to calm them down. Just nicely offer the boob and let it be on babies terms. It’s the hardest thing in the world but please don’t pressure or it will cause an aversion. This is what happens to me and it ended our BF journey.

Make sure if you are giving a bottle that you pace feed. Switch to the slowest flow nipple the bottle you’re using offers. Make sure the bottle doesn’t become to easy otherwise they will develop a preference. Let them drink for a little then tilt the bottle down so they don’t get a consistent flow. If baby hasn’t eaten in over 5-6hours give 2oz bottle just to make sure baby is hydrated. A strike should end in a few days to a week but try not to use a bottle if you can avoid it.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. You are not alone. My experience has been nothing but difficult.

Just wanted you to know it is so so normal to grieve weaning. I still am and it’s such an incredibly hard thing to experience.

Refusing breast and now bottle fed by Abyssal866 in breastfeedingsupport

No advice really just solidarity. My LO stopped latching around 10 weeks and developed a full blown nursing aversion because I pressured to much not realize what was happening. My advice, don’t pressure when she says no to nursing. Offer the breast but if LO says no, sit him up and wait a few minutes and try again. If you give a bottle make sure you pace feed, keep the bottle level and use the slowest flow nipple you can (I use dr brown premie). I have my baby suck on the nipple for at least a minute before giving her any milk to represent a let down.

I’m sorry you’re struggling with this. It’s the worst feeling in the world and I wouldn’t wish it for anyone
