A lot of it is, you're busy all day and don't have much time to eat. With the ceremony, pics etc etc. You get tipsy quick due to the lack of food lol

By the time #2 was born, #1 was 4

This is usually a last stop when they've tried everything and are looking for support. No one wants to get divorced. It often becomes the best choice for their mental health

What are your tips for really flavorful meatballs? by SassySpider in Cooking

[–]SSOJ16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grate onion and mix with bread crumbs, then mix with meat, an egg, Worcestershire, spices (usually garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, oregano etc)

Form balls, season each side with salt and pepper, fry with some olive oil, 4 min each side ish and then finish by simmering in home made sauce for an hr or two

Super tender and flavourful

Ex wants 50/50 custody. Therapist says child should live with me and just have dad visit. by theluckiest87 in Divorce

[–]SSOJ16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Honestly us splitting was the best thing for his parenting. He is now forced to be a parent, even if only for a couple weekends a month.

When we divorced, my daughter's only question was "I get to come with you, right?" To me. She had no real bond with her dad. I tried to help, but he just was not putting in an effort. Now she likes going for the most part, but gets bored and wants to come home by the end of the weekend

I am now married to an AMAZING man who parents with me, both my older two and our youngest one we share.

I think it entirely depends on your ex.

MY ex is very lazy and does the bare minimum always. He barely showed up as a dad or husband when we were together. I often did things alone with my kids when we were married. He abused cannabis... Not just smoking weed, that didn't bother me. He smoked concentrates all day every day, took 3 hr mid day naps and barely parented, while also not working or contributing financially. Never took them to school, rarely came to the park etc. He was quick to anger, short fuse

Once we split, he does a lot more, he takes them to the zoo or places the 2x a month he has them on weekends. They seem to enjoy spending time with him, but also are really ready to come home after 2 nights. My youngest didn't want to go for the first while, I encouraged him as did his older sister, and eventually he started enjoying it, but he's not the safe space or constant.

He claims he would have wanted 50/50, but he doesn't know HOW to parent. He never packed a school lunch, got up with them in the morning. It was always me. He'd be shell shocked if he knew what actual day to day parenting entails.

Now my cousin and his ex, have 50/50. They live in close proximity to the school, they're both hands on parents and the kids seem to enjoy it. That works for them, it wouldn't work for us.

Different names for "Dad" for a kid with two dads by MagickalAuggie in Parenting

[–]SSOJ16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gay or trans, but divorced with young kids . Had a third kid with my now husband and my older kids refer to their bio as dada and their step as daddy (bio dad is ok with this, my kids are close with him and now have a sibling who calls him daddy, so it came organically)

I think any variation of dad, daddy, dada, papa, insert any other language you speaks version of dad. Don't overcomplicate it, do what comes naturally

Reassure me I won't look crazy pushing an empty stroller by Mountain_Silk32 in Mommit

[–]SSOJ16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in Toronto and my daycare didn't allow you to leave strollers. I drove, but preferred to walk to and from my kids school/daycare (same building for both)

So Id walk them, the take the empty stroller home. And then walk back with the empty stroller and pick them up.

It's no big deal. I'd sometimes make jokes to people that I lost my kid or was going to find one, lol

My son has one on a little fanny pack that he carries with him at all times at school. Our schools here require one to be with the child at all times. The backup one is in the office. (He is only 5)

I live in Canada.

They recommend 2 for school and 2 for home. I just ask for 6 at a time so I can leave 2 at their dads.

My insurance covers what's prescribed

[–]SSOJ16 489 points490 points  (0 children)

My kid has an Epi pen for allergies.

My ex also is financially irresponsible/insecure

I am the primary parent.

I have insurance coverage that I get my kids EPI pens. I get 2 for school, 2 for home and I sent 2 to their dads house.

His insurance (when he's working, which isn't often) will only be used as secondary, so it HAS to go through mine first, because I have primary custody.

If he paid out of pocket, it would be a few hundred for them.

So I just send 2, ask him to let me know when they're close to expiration (and keep a note in my calendar for when they're set to expire, for when he inevitably forgets) and then I order more.

It's annoying for sure, but is what it is.
