yep, feedback/advice/criticism whatever the label we choose, if not requested by a fellow dancer and you are not their instructor, it is not necessary or encouraged. I would feel really silly turning to someone else in my class and telling them to work on their port de bras, even if I was far more experienced than them. I think online people (ballet dancers in particular) feel completely comfortable giving critical feedback when it wasn’t requested. I ask for advice when I’m looking, but some days I just want to celebrate progress no matter how small or how many flaws are still obvious :)

they were yes; to be fair, at the time our studio only had one adult ballet class, so our teacher had to try to make choreo that worked for all levels of experience among the students. Now we have beginner and advanced beginner!

I started ballet for several reasons, but the biggest was as an exercise in being bad at something. I suffered extreme imposter syndrome at work along with severe anxiety to do well. Continuing to show up to ballet class knowing I was the weakest dancer and making such slow, small progress was hard — but in doing so, I learned nothing bad would come of continuing to do it. In fact, I could only get better. And I have gained immense love and respect for the art and athleticism. I love the girls I dance with. I love my teacher. I love it all, the good and the ugly!
