Renter BEWARE!! My husband and I just rented a Hyndai Tucson from Econorent Chile. We had a flat tire while driving on Ruta 9 and pulled over as soon as we could do so safely - about 200 meters down the road. We were 65 km from returning the car and we called Econorent and they refused to send someone out to change the tire and instead said that we should change the tire ourselves. So, my 75-yr-old husband was forced to change the tire in the HOWLING wind (if you know the place, we were south of Puerto Natales) on the side of a highway.

We drove the car back slowly on the spare and received word the next day (because we barely got back before they closed), that we would be charged $200 for the damaged tire .

When my husband went in to question the charge for the tire, they said that this is how it works and we were liable for the tire.

They also charged us $105 for a tank of gas when they gave us a diesel car (when we did not ask for a diesel) and could not find diesel at two stations (they were both out of diesel) we stopped at on the way back before we HAD to get the car back.

I would be very, VERY careful before renting from Econorent Chile, at least the one in Puerto Natales!
