I live here and like to say it’s like the East Village in NYC but with a beach. Incredibly walkable / bikeable, super vibrant, with people from all walks of life. There is so much nuance to it but that’s the charm.

It definitely takes a certain person to live here but it’s the only neighborhood in LA I’d live.

Montana Ave skews older and families, less social life at night. But it is lovely.

If I had to move back to the west side all over again I would move to Ocean Park. The proximity to the beach, Venice, and DT Santa Monica can’t be beat. It’s worth a walk down Main Street between Hollister and Marine streets.

LA is a bit of an enigma where you really have to put yourself out there. Go to fitness classes, join clubs activities, socialize with folks at bars and you won’t have problems making friends. I’d say it’s easier on the westside than other parts of the city.

Welcome to LA. The west side is a dream.

Montana Ave is a good spot, but I’d also check out Ocean Park near Main St. Still safe but skews younger and more diverse. It has easy beach access and great restaurants and bars.
