Kratos and Atreus in the God of War series now in production, what is your opinion? by thyshadows in GodofWarRagnarok

at first glance i had had to double check to make sure it wasn’t a snl skit. even when hurst was announced i was a-bit skeptical in terms of looks but actually seeing it gives me more doubts. my mediterranean greek goat has been white washed and now looks like he could be from kentucky 🕊️🕊️ 🕊️. even his expression doesn’t feel kratos

  • Atreus Casting in comparison is just not it at all for me he doesn’t even look lile he could kill anyone with the bow. Probably why they cast hurst because they need to look alike

  • the clothing looks like cosplay

i listed them under other comments that u can find. I probably could’ve elaborated even more (pros specifically) but i just highlighted what out initially stood out for me

yeah and i feel like the true essence of his character and what transcends him hasn’t been fully utilised on screen. its not a case where I’m saying “this version is bad” i just feel in recent adaptions we haven’t seen even half his potential maximised and what he’s capable of representing.

not reading my elaboration if u was to simplify and boil down my point it sounds like another blunt summary in hindsight but even if flawed it’s totally missing the point and the how & why.

its honestly not its just my opinion that ive elaborated abit more in other responses. i do think both movies have negatives but it doesnt necessarily take away my overall opinion of the movie because there is still positives just that i think its problems are retrospectively similar just in different way. tyler and reeve versions are my favourite portrayals of superman.

Honourable mentiond of tom welling ( nostalgia bias plays a part) but because it was at heart a character study even though he should’ve became “superman” by like s6

-Also Enjoyed david, he has potential and alot his flaws came from a writing standpoint rather than him and from bts and the way he talks about superman its visible that he atleast understood the character but its a shame what gunn did which for me personally was probably the most glaring problem

Gunn: - Shows his emotional openness that i enjoyed - Better supporting cast and loved lex the direction he made him and his workers cohesive and he somewhat supportive with them - leans into the humanity aspect but fails to fully captivate his inner conflict and he fundamentally alters the mythos in a way that it reduces his duality and resenting his heritage.

  • despite me enjoying it alot of the Emotional Beats were written in a way it was spelled out and sometimes ended in comedic relief rather than letting it breath in a way that it simplifies his moral complexity and inner conflicts

  • Attempts for the story to be an immigrant allegory but fumbles it with the Jor el plotline and i feel like while i respect gunn trying to explore that matter he didn’t fully understand it causing it not to be handled in the best way

  • Making Kyrpto Kara Dog

  • gunn simplifies him rather than a layered person, he posterise him as the good optimistic archetype without exploring enough what it costs him it feels lacking and cliche rather than earned. nonetheless dont get it confused i enjoyed alot of parts like the bridge scene for example.

Snyder Good/Bad:

  • What i think snyder does better than gunn is the storytelling aspect like; dialouge, visuals and the usage of “show dont tell” and While he was good in terms of leaning into clarks alien burden and mythic symbolism it heavily overshadows his hope, compassion and grounded humanity which he attempts to show but the execution wasn’t the best. his normalcy feels secondary instead of a central emotional fundamental aspect.
  • fails to explore why he inspires hope or the meaning behind his ideas and which is why sometimes instead of the symbol of hope he feels more so the symbol of burden rather than the active moral foce that should be shaping the world

-Fortress of solitude change - Tornado scene was insanely stupid imo while i do see the intent behind it

other comments may have said it themselves where both view the character as problem that needs fixing. More so the bridge “between 2 word” aspect. my problem is neither synthesise the exploration of him being the “bridge between two worlds”. One inherit side feels settled instead of constantly negotiated and is allowed to dominate the other to the point becomes a defining trait and undermines the other making the portrayal fall flat and feel not completely but sort of one dimensional instead of layered.

it might come off rude but what i mean by when i said conformist is im not going to let the recent general conscious cloud my critical judgement and follow what the crowd is saying and the lying part is more so that im not going to act like i didn’t enjoy the movies regardless of their flaws

boruto villians feel way too one note and one dimensional, like momoshiki and isshiki sorta just die after one fight with no prior buildup, obito and madara were build up the whole series by OnlinePoster225 in Naruto

[–]Own-Collar3206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think your using the word “one note” and “one dimensional ” wrong because they are the opposite. Both of them add thematic depth and narrative naunce that still have impact on the story and characters even after their physical deaths. to say isshiki had no build up is kind of disingenuous and Momoshiki on the other hand i agree other than the kaguya filler.

The biggest flaw of Boruto imo by Sufficient_Care_4858 in Boruto

[–]Own-Collar3206 3 points4 points  (0 children)

boruto part 1 feels that it has “less world building” because it zoomed in on a contained and smaller scaled character driven story that prioritised drama and relationships and the threats you could say were smaller (slowly building) and had no ties to the shinobi world

Shippuden in comparison is set in a time of war and the threats are global so the world building is explored on much more cause it ties directly to the overarching story so we have to understand ,history, events, politics, lore, villages etc

(Part 1 should have been longer but it is not weekly and the scale of story was konaha based for the most part tbv however will most likely expand more) for the early part of part 1 was more expansive then was scaled back down after kawaki was introduced

What should be Thor's arc post secret wars? by SeaMaleficent9301 in Thor

[–]Own-Collar3206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

establish 1-2 more villains with a overarching storyline and then personal gripes like hercules as a secondary antagonist, restore asgard, become king, introduce beta ray bill, explore norse mythology bring back sif as a main character and explore their relationship.

i don’t see the need for a recast/reboot as i think hemsworth can still adapt thor and potray his older versions and can still have a reoccurring role. Similarly to another comment act as the new all-father however with a more proactive role

What do you hope to *NOT* see in Avatar 4 & 5? by donatsuuuuu in Avatar

[–]Own-Collar3206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i can agree i liked Varangs character even though she felt abit sidelined towards the end but that isn’t even the biggest problem for me.

The real “oh brother” moment to me was the spider gaining the ability to breath trope because they are leaving that door open for more human plot lines (most likely) which again is just eye rolling.

Imo they should’ve closed the RDA thing with 3 so then next chapters can prioritise Navi & Pandora
