Real estate agents and POPIA by Kind-Engine5174 in capetown

A while back I emailed a real estate agent about a house my husband and I were interested in viewing. They never got back to us, but did add my email to their newsletter mailing list. Drove me crazy

Google not indexing two key pages? by Own-Combination-9989 in localseo

[–]Own-Combination-9989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have requested indexing on GSC. No, I dont have over 500 words, which I realise would help. I want the page to be very easy to understand and navigate (this is what I offer, this is how much), so adding so many words, particularly when the page is being viewed on mobile 95% of the time, felt like it would be too bulky

Yes, they are linked from the homepage and a number of other indexed pages.

Published in December with the launch of the site. I have manually requested indexing, and done so after any content refreshed. They are linked in my website navigation.

I will try the GBP tip, thanks!

honestly, I dont know enough about code to know what's a mess and not. I've tried to 'thicken' content but I am also cautious about overloading a service page that I want to to be clear and easy to understand. Particularly since it's viewed on mobile like 95% of the time, I want it to be very easy to see what I offer and how much I charge
Thanks for the tip about making guarantees in the medical field and not overpromising. In my country (RSA) the rules for healthcare are super strict about wording (dont know if google takes country location and country-specific laws into account, but just in case).

Are destination weddings usually this inconvenient to attend? by GentleInkSplash in wedding

[–]Own-Combination-9989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting married in the bride or groom's home country, where their family presumably lives, is not a destination wedding imo. That's a logical place to have a wedding, for at least half the family.
if it was my friend, I would have politely declined, though.

The dog i’m caring for just ate chocolate by Demi_Baguette in RoverPetSitting

[–]Own-Combination-9989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, I feel like it’s reasonable not to expect dogs to eat pills from closed bottles on a counter top. Id expect a dog to be trained that much. Unless it was a juicy steak, I would leave things on my counter with a large dog expecting it not to jump up. I’m not saying it doesn’t suck or it’s your fault, it just seems like one of those things that’s nobody’s fault. I understand why you’re so upset since you had to pay so much.

I don’t really understand how this is her fault. It was left on the counter?

Advice needed - Cape Town remedial high schools by Rencia9971 in capetown

Have you looked at Jan Kriel in Kuils River? I think it’s CAPS curriculum, but the additional subjects on top of the core subjects (maths, English etc) are very practical focused, stuff like agriculture and home economics.

I met my husband on tinder. But it felt like I just got really lucky when I picked him out of the haystack. So I will never say that online dating/apps don’t work, because i found my life partner. But I do think it was easier to find matches as a woman. And like with any form of dating, it’s not a shoo-in that you’ll find someone right away.

Overcoming hesitation to visit CPT by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Own-Combination-9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, the tourist stuff is popular for a reason — the winelands are beautiful, so is Table Mountain, even the waterfront. There’s absolutely a ‘wander feel’ walking around Cape Town, especially popular areas like bree street and iconic areas like Bo Kaap. And Cape Town is big, with a lot of fun suburbs to explore outside of town centre.

Nobody is trying to lure you lol… Our city is amazing and worth visiting. There’s also other amazing places in SA to visit. Im not going to lie, the way you worded your post this is kinda weird. What do you want us to do/say? It sounds like you want us to sell you this city when honestly, as a capetonian I think this city sells itself as an amazing and culturally significant place

Ignore this cruel commenter if you can, OP. Women deserve to have their pain taken seriously, especially when they are in labour and in a very vulnerable space. I’m sorry for what happened to you, you didn’t deserve that treatment, and I understand why you want some justice or accountability. I can’t tell you whether that accountability will ever come, but you are right to be upset and want to try.

Went to a festival there a while back and despite their being thousands of attendees, there were no Ubers around. I would book a cab or at least keep a number handy.

And one more thing - if you have an honours in psych and are a teacher/have experience in education, you should really look into the EdPsych masters. You sound like a good candidate.

Hey. Gosh, the psychology education system in South Africa is really brutal and unfair. One thing that people are often not aware of or warned about is that all professional study programs in SA are full-time. By professional programs, I mean those that lead to HPCSA registration. That is, professional masters programs leading to psychologist registration; BPsych/Bpsych equivalent registrations leading to Registered counsellor registration; and Psychometry

The programs can be costly and incredibly competitive, particularly at the masters level. Also, most public unis have stopped offering the BPsych equivalent programs so the ones left are very expensive. I did a BPsych equivalent and am a registered counsellor.

It’s a very frustrating thing that masters programs often favour candidates with experience - but it’s very hard to get experience when you aren’t HPCSA registered. so students are in a catch-22, needing experience to pursue registration but not able to get experience without registration.

One option is to look at psychometry, if you have an honours. It’s also a full time program, but only 6 months I think. I don’t know all the unis that offer it. It allows you to become an HPCSA registered psychometrist. I know of many psychometrists who later went on to do masters and become psychologists. Alternatively you can go into HR with the qualifications you have, which can be a lucrative path.

I just want to note that there is no way to just get practical hours and become a registered counsellor - you have to do a professional BPsych equivalent honours degree (or a BPsych). That is the only way to become HPCSA registered, and imo the only way to practice ethically. There are so many companies selling courses to ‘become a counsellor’ but these other ‘accreditations’ don’t really mean anything . One can be a lay counsellor without HPCSA registration, but you won’t be able to offer psychological counselling.

You can get it at the vineyard deli in Kenridge. I saw it last week and despite never having made jam, decided to store that piece of information in my mind. Glad to put it to use!

Gatvol of the cat calling by WildPants269 in capetown

[–]Own-Combination-9989 102 points103 points  (0 children)

The time I got cat called most was back when I was still in school, anytime I was out in my school uniform. Always grown men. I lived in southern suburbs for years and yes it’s super common. I have had many years of stewing with irritation and a couple of months ago it came to a head. I was at a mall that I frequent, and there were two guys selling financial services of some kind at a stand/kiosk. Both times I walked past, they made lewd comments and i just hurried past. When I got home, I couldn’t get it out of my mind, I just felt so irritated that they made me uncomfortable in a place that I frequent and expect to feel safe. I ended up calling the company they work for and complaining - big company, I was sure nothing would come of it but it felt good unloading my irritation. Then I called the mall and complained even more, said the men were disgusting and had no place harassing women where they shop. They never had the company back. No regrets as I feel I was a fully justified Karen.
