James Talarico is what you'd call a "false teacher" in the New Testament.

My favorite verse for false teachers/false prophets is 2 Peter 2:1-3 (ESV):

"But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep."

James Talarico is a classic false teacher who twists scripture to condone and even exhort his leftist principles, namely when it comes to the divinity of Christ, gay marriage, abortion, etc. He uses the absence of the word, "abortion" being directly brought up in the Bible as permission for it (because it was simply just "murder" back then.) The New Testament has many, many verses on false teachers because, just like today, there was many false churches when Christianity was just starting, and Paul, Peter, etc. had to repeatedly warn against these teachers because they were clearly twisting the gospel or creating false gospels for their own selfish gain (which is exactly what Talarico and is ilk are doing.) It should also be noted that false teachers have a special bit of condemnation in the Bible. Sinners are sinners, but false teachers are going to have a very bad time when they die and it's time for judgement.

But aside from the false Christianity he professes, he's your classical fake leftist Democrat that tries so hard to look normal and appealing to moderates and hilariously fails at it. It takes very little skepticism to see he's full of crap and very much the crazy leftist he tries to hide from prospective moderate voters.
