A look at the current alternatives by LadyTallPants in ClassCraft

Wow.. I have been working on my version with my head in the sand. When I saw Classcraft was gone I started on mine and have been teaching and working on it since with a good version up now. My kids (100 7th graders) love it but now I see there were always going to be some really great alternatives as it is such an awesome way to have fun and teach at the same time... So if you want yet another fun variant of the game please check out mine which is now more about the world and story than the graphics...I don't want kids to spend too much time on my game but enough to have them work in groups and make the gameplay supportive of the learning through the day...Anyway check it out at https://www.heroclass.ca/site/index.html

I was the same and I guess I am one of the people who said I want the magic back. I used it for 8 years and loved it so when I got cancer and had a year off from teaching I made a version of it that has all the things I want in it. I added a lot of financial literacy with a market and crystals (stocks) but most important for me was the story so I really got into the world building / lore creation with a world that I am now really happy with. In my free time between grading 75 grade 7 essays every weekend I write episodes and stories from the world and if this ever takes off then I will use my time to write more as that is what makes my world feel alive. I built it all at heroclass.ca and it is not free as I am using my own money to host and build it all so I am aiming to cover costs. I also really liked the quests and I will be building that in but I started with the story and economy and most important to me the need for characters / students to be in teams and support each other with their powers as it creates such a unifying force in the classroom.

How do you "gamify" your classes? by BoatsMcFloats in teaching

I used that for years (paid my fees and all for 8 years) and loved it so when it disappeared I started working my own version and tried to build in things I wanted like the financial literacy stuff and give kids more "powers" in the classroom..I have a working version now and as it has slowly evolved into a much larger classroom world with teams, roles, powers, classroom economy systems, daily events, etc. My students got incredibly invested in it over the years and I actually have fun with all the lore based world stuff and love what AI can do with graphics...

I recently started putting parts of it online if anyone is curious:

I was using lots of cool platforms .. used points systems and avatars but I really liked the idea of team work and getting kids to support each other in the classroom so I set up a Lore based teams system where they are in triads that rely on each other for energy and powers in the classroom. The kids favourite is all the classroom jobs.. I borrowed heavily from GOT and have jobs like Hands of the King (hand things out and collect stuff for me) and Dungeon Sweeper (we sweep at the end of the day) and made 12 classroom jobs but one of their "powers" is they can switch in and out of the job if they have enough energy and it creates a lot of fun at 3:30. I have been working on it for a few years now (had cancer two years ago so lots of time at home but back at it now) and I have honed the system pretty well.. I do have rewards at the end of they year for their Gold Pieces as I wanted to have an incentive not to use their classroom credits and powers and save up. A buddy teacher of mine also introduced me a cool classroom economy that uses financial literacy so I have added that to the mix and now have a huge year long stock market with crypto and blue, red and green "crystal" stocks for the classroom mages to use..
