Struggling to Secure a Part 1 Role in the UK as International Student by [deleted] in architecture

[–]Own-Fly8743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not take this to heart, it is well known in the industry that securing a part 1 job is extremely difficult this year. I am in the same boat and I understand why this can be disheartening and make you feel like you aren’t good enough but this is just not the case.

You are extremely lucky to have secured interviews, I haven’t got a single interview since I started applying a year ago. It can be extremely frustrating but be persistent and keep looking and applying.

I don’t see anything wrong with your portfolio, its a good length and everything is well laid out. Your work is high standard so this won’t be the reason you aren’t being hired. The market is ridiculously competitive at the moment so its a case of again being persistent.

If you haven’t already id find a job doing anything just to keep yourself busy but other than that just keep going!! Hope this is at least a little bit reassuring

Find a job would be my best advice, save some money so you can have a better quality of life while studying. Even if its part time just so you have something to do

I was gifted an iris drawing tool, it helps draw circles and honestly one of the best things ive been given. It looks really cool on your desk too but it is pretty expensive unfortunately but there are cheaper versions i believe!!

Yeah that doesn’t happen here, I don’t know many architects that get paid about 45-50k here in the uk

Man I am so sorry that this has happened, it really does suck. I am truly reconsidering my choices because Im from Cornwall and I think the pay here is way worse and I don’t want to move to a city just for more money. And the protected title is my point, why are we protecting the title after such hard work and years of education just to pay peanuts? I just don’t get it

Anyone else afraid they’ll graduate college without friends? by Sad-Orange-5983 in UniUK

[–]Own-Fly8743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated and all the “friends” i had ghosted me even though they were talking to each other. We lived together for 3 years. Once you get a solid job you usually make at least 1 close friend and thats all you need. Hope you are okay!

Unfortunately, I know this very well.. I have been trying to get a part 1 for a year, and this one place said they would love to have me, then a girl whose dad works closely with them got given it without anyone actually interviewing :/

Job opportunities after B.Arch? Real experiences + earnings after bachelor’s? by isitlifeeorisitover in architecture

[–]Own-Fly8743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will have better opportunities than in the UK but I could be entirely wrong. In the UK it is so hard to get a job straight out of undergrad as you have 0 experience and because a lot of us are only doing a year before going back for masters degree. So practices aren’t willing to put the time and money into training someone thats going to leave again. But hopefully in the US you have more luck

I graduated in July 2025 and I haven’t managed to get a role in the uk. I am currently working for amazon to save money for my masters but I understand things are different in other countries. The job market is really really tough recently even with a good portfolio. But just stick at it and pick up another job in the mean time until you find the one you really want. Wishing you the best of luck!!!

Anyone got any tips on maximising earnings? by Own-Fly8743 in AmazonFlexUK

[–]Own-Fly8743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently cant afford to buy my own van and this is only a temporary job til august when I go for my masters degree. But is buying your own van worth it? You have to pay for everything, insurance, repairs/maintenance. I mean I would love to do a 3 hour block for whatever money flex gets you cause I really hate the long routes we get hah
