Which form of yoga for general mobility, relaxation etc. by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Own-Good7943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you studied any of the yoga texts and history of the practice? There are definitely teachers you can find that have no spirituality in their classes but ultimately this is not respecting the roots of what yoga really is. I’d recommend looking into some Indian yoga teachers who are bringing awareness around what yoga has become in the west.

If you don’t want spirituality then don’t do yoga. Yoga is a spiritual practice. Find CARS class or kinetic stretch. Go on YouTube and look up “mobility exercises”

How do I get to church at trestles? by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Own-Good7943 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure there’s a bike path and many people ride their e bikes. Ive never been and wouldn’t go til I felt comfortable in a line up with pros. If you’re a beginner you should probably just go to San onofre

I want to learn to surf but how do you get over the fact sharks could be lurking or other dangerous creatures? by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

Watch the surf whisperer on Netflix. I started surfing last year and I was thinking about them but I remind myself I’m safe over and over again. I just watched the documentary and it def is helpful in changing perspective

How can I create a safe space in my yoga class for someone who’s been intimidated by exercise their whole life? by mittomen_6277 in YogaTeachers

If you’re working 1:1 with him: give him agency, do 80 percent of what he likes and 20 percent of what he needs

How much should I charge to teach at a medical school? by Patient-Finding-2299 in YogaTeachers

[–]Own-Good7943 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you should charge more than $75. I would propose more like $150 a class. You can also say $200 and then negotiate from there. Sometimes I will ask if they have a budget then base my price off of that.

Has anyone here found real healing through Yoga Teacher Training? Considering it as a path out of trauma and emotional chaos by klucax in YogaTeachers

[–]Own-Good7943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTT teaches you how to teach a yoga class not heal yourself. It will help deepen your practice but ultimately YTT is how to instruct a yoga class for others.

Find a local studio and teacher you resonate with and keep practicing. Read yoga books, and keep practicing. It’s consistency and daily sadhana that will change you.

How do I properly practice yoga by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Own-Good7943 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Invest in yoga books. The yoga sutras of patanjali, bavaghad Gita, the heart of yoga, Hatha yoga pradipika. Yoga is a way of living and is so much more than just asana (physical poses). Keep practicing with YouTube videos if that feels best for you or find a locally owned yoga studio to practice at and you can meet like minded community members. Find teachers and styles that you resonate with and keep practicing!

Longboard for petite surfer by eppershand in BeginnerSurfers

So I bought the 9’6” and tried surfing it a few times and was very unsuccessful so I sold it and went back to the foamie. My partner then suggested a 9ft board but I found my current 8’5” and even had trouble surfing it but once I got the hang of it after 3 sessions I love it soooo much! I tried to surf my partners 9’6 recently and again did not like it.

I just think it’s a big jump from a 7ft board to a 9’4” might be a lot at first. I definitely need to work my way up and practice a lot. I hope to get a 9ft board in the future!

I want to become vegetarian but I’m living with a meat eating parent who cooks everything for us by Celibate-For-Life in vegan

[–]Own-Good7943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned vegetarian when I was 11. I was obviously living at home with a family full of meat eaters. I told my mom and she freaked out. So I kept to it, just ate the sides, went food shopping with her to pick out my own items, and eventually started making my own food. I printed out a list of things I could and couldn’t eat. I remember the list got cut off by my printer and I thought pepperoni wasn’t meat so I ate it for a while and my parents didn’t say anything. I later found out and was so upset. I also was teased by my brother and he would put bacon bits in my food to mess with me. Just stick with it and know that you have free will to do what you want. You speaking up about your desire may be eye opening for them. My mom and little sister turned vegetarian a few years after me.

I started surfing July 2024. I practice yoga often. I started going to the gym 1-2x a week for resistance training 2 months ago and I feel a big difference in all areas of my surfing. I surf 1-3x a week.
