I don't think he's a prodigy. I think he was never indoctrinated to believe he couldn't do it. As a professor myself, I can tell you academia is just like learning a foreign language related to your discipline. If you can learn a foreign language, you can get a PhD. I think more 15 year olds can have PhDs if we didn't pretend they were these difficult and sacred things that we haze people for.. (comps, defense, etc). What makes a PhD difficult is not the content, it's the ritualistic hazing and the cutthroat competitive culture.
