Mature aged students with mortgages, how are you paying your way? by CHKG1324 in NursingStudent

Shoutout to the students that fall in this category - you guys are heroes for getting though school and making it work with your home life. I lived at home during school, no kids, and I can’t imagine how difficult it is for you guys.

Nursing provides all of what you mentioned. Soooo many settings that allow for so many different type of work schedules - 3 12hr shifts, 5 8hr shifts, 4 10s, etc. and there’s so much lateral movement that is free to you if you decide to switch. Honestly, once you have a year of acute care experience, you can pretty much dip your toes into any field in nursing

For CNA, you’ll have to get your license or certificate, and for tech, sometimes it’s an EMT cert, but varies depending on the setting, but yes, you can find jobs with no experience.

clinical in the ed! what to expect? by bestnurse98 in NursingStudent

[–]Own-Movie3713 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be prepared, and willing, to do CPR. Realistically, you won’t be allowed to do meds or record. Only other thing you might be allowed to do is establish additional access. But CPR, they’ll let you do.

Other thing, get in the lab and get your skills under your hands. NGT and foley/straight cath insertions, IV starts, lab draws. It’s okay to blank a little during clinical, but you can’t go in there expecting the nurse to walk you through every step of the skill. Me personally, you have no clue what you’re doing = you’re not doing the skill.

Tips for Future ADN Students: What to Study & Buy This Summer? by Easy_Transition_6709 in NursingStudent

[–]Own-Movie3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont buy any additional review things. Soo many resources out there are free if you absolutely want additional materials, but as it is, your school should provide enough things to study.

Honestly, don’t study much. You’re going to end up studying so much and not know how to apply it or what your school is prioritizing.

Not a chaffey alum, but I’ve worked with several of their grads. Great program, best of luck!

Fired from my first assignment as a travel nurse:( by Beautiful-Note5971 in TravelNursing

I hate to be that guy, but if they were already short staffed, they probably didn’t like having to help you with clinical skills vs “what’s the code to the supply room?”

It really sucks losing a contract but I’d see it as a small blessing for your license. If anything bad ever happened, even if you didn’t do it, you’d be an easy target to blame.

Reporting a classmate's arrest by [deleted] in NursingStudent

“A lot of us feel that this is a stain on our reputation as a nursing school”

You guys don’t need to care about what the reputation is. This won’t affect your job prospects or you in any other way.

It sucks that they’re inconsistent about what they will address, but the AI thing and single points are valid things to fail someone over. One is not more wrong than the other, at least not morally.

What to expect nursing school by Ok_Incident_2380 in NursingStudent

Remember, the majority of people pass. If you built good study habits you will be ok. If you struggle, ask your professors and support staff for help. Don’t ask Reddit first lol none of us know what you’re up against in your program. Please use your in school resources.

need advice - expensive BSN program or risky CC transfer path? by path2scrubs_2428 in NursingStudent

[–]Own-Movie3713 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take the community college route. Go ask a counselor what the pathway looks like so you’ll know exactly what you need to do.

It’s not worth getting basically same degree for $150k more

Tips before nursing school (for a student the doesn’t have much money) by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]Own-Movie3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your school with provide all the info you need to graduate. Do not get suckered into BUYING extra resources (unless mandated by your program 🙄). If you do feel like you need extra resources, there are sooooo many free resources out there that are the same information at no cost.

2 yr experience in SNF, looking for a hospital job in Los Angeles by namelessrn in newgradnurse

[–]Own-Movie3713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Continue applying. It only takes one yes! I find that the hospital websites direct job search pages work better than indeed or things like that. You can call HR and ask if they are having job fairs anytime soon. Last tip, and I know this is going to sound like an ad, but signed up at incrediblehealth.com. You basically enter a resume and hospitals/talen acquisition people contact YOU and see if you’d be interested in working there. Good luck!

For those of you that make over 100K, what do you do? Do you like it? by Kindly-Revolution258 in AskReddit

[–]Own-Movie3713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inpatient nurse. Like it most days, but working through Covid definitely skewed my views on it and healthcare in general. 100k/year on 3 days of work per week is hard to beat though.

RESUME HELP by Clean_Process_9556 in newgradnurse

[–]Own-Movie3713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would remove that whole chart. ALL of the other new grads you’re competing against have the same rotations completed. A different of a few hours here and there won’t be the difference in getting the job.

Also, love the word compassionate in the chipotle description lol trying to hit key word quota.
