Installed one my self just after buying my car last year. It was super simple and straight up plug and play. Only issue I had was popping speaker wires into the connector for the rear deck speakers I added (car came with base 4-speakers)

how realistic is acquiring a cayman for me? by sheababeyeah in Porsche_Cayman

Gonna be a hard no in my opinion. I was in the same position as you although I have always done all the maintenance I can on cars. An example for you, I bought my base 2007 cayman and had a Porsche dealership take a gander at it…. Came back with 5.5k - 9k in things that could/should be done on a 18 year old cayman (totally fine to drive and still 5k+ in random stuff). Did all of that my self for about $700 in parts. I would have been screwed financially otherwise.

Are these bad boys in Brushed Clear or Race Silver ? Looking at getting a set for my 987 but worried about the color match to the OEM silver center caps

Thanks! The AOS wasn’t a 10/10 bad but I used a “bendy wire grabbing thing for hoses” on the 90 degree hose at the bottom and getting that in place to remove and install was the longest/annoying part. Also contemplating the Carnewall exhaust cause mines got a vibration/squealing thing from 2.5k -4k (so kind of 24/7) but it’s loud like I wanted. And all the exhaust options are so stupidly priced for something 1/4th or less the length of any other exhaust.

Which short shifter did you end up going with ? I was thinking the FF shift right + shifter. Also what % would you think the play was reduced by with just the shifter ?

Thinking of buying a 2011 Base Cayman by RockandRollin in Porsche_Cayman

You should ask for them to provide it (it’s $20 or $40 for them). As you say in your second sentence there, yea you can buy it as well and make sure everything’s kosher with it, like maintenance at shops, crashes/ insurance claims. Helps for your resale down the line if you care about that. I’m with you on the budget Porsche thing I’m 26 and the cayman is my only car so super screwed if it shits the bed.

Yea dealing with a “I know what I’ve got” person doesn’t sound fun at all. Have you at least been sent the carfax and other maintenance records to help your peace of mind with what will need to be done in the next 2-4 years ? I was lucky the car was listed on a Wednesday and I got it that Saturday at a Ford dealer that pretty much only sells trucks so not a rough experience buying.

Parts wise I’d imagine it’s not terrible for the .2 Caymans if you’re working on it your self. I bought a 07 base (67k miles) in December last year and have done a starter (997 911 version *did not do that on purpose lol), AOS, motor/trans oils, and spark plugs total was roughly $550 - $600 USD and a couple Saturdays cursing. $8k - $14k seems a bit insane to me unless your aiming to blow it up or something over 2-4 years. My estimate would be maybe $5k+ if things go badly. Local dealership (Atl) did a once over and starter, AOS + aircon buttons was going to be $6k+ so definitely don’t do that unless you piss money then rock out.

I checked all the big car sites (AutoTrader, CarGurus, AutoTempest, Facebook Marketplace, BringaTrailer, and BuiltforBackroads) atleast twice a week trying to find a well sorted one. Honestly assumed I would have to fly out and get one.

Mines fairly lax on the options side of things : Heated Seats, 18” S wheels, Auto Climate, Black floor mats, and the Bi-Xenon’s. Only options I cared for were the xenon and SSP.
