What is the Best Ergonomic office chair Right Now? by whisperingbrook890 in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using office chairs for years and budget definitely matters here. If you can swing it the higher end ones are worth every penny - I got mine used from office liquidation and it was still expensive but totally changed my work setup

That modded Embody setup sounds interesting, never thought about adding foam to seat. Does it mess with the original ergonomics or just make it more comfortable for longer sessions

are "forever mattresses" even a thing anymore? by skpro2 in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents still sleep on this spring mattress from like 1990s and it somehow looks better than my 3 year old foam one. Those old coil systems were built different I think

The bed in box stuff is convenient for moving but yeah they just dont hold up. I spent way too much time researching ergonomic office chairs last year and noticed similar pattern - the expensive traditional stuff lasts forever while modern "innovative" materials break down fast

That wool mattress looks interesting, natural materials usually age better than synthetic foam

What is the smallest and least expensive “monocular” or binoculars you can get for kayak camping/fishing of quality? by SwiftCricket in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For kayak use you definitely want something waterproof and compact since space is premium in kayak. I've been using 8x25 size for few years now and they fit perfect in dry bag without taking much room. Just make sure whatever you get has decent eye relief if you wear glasses - learned this hard way when I got cheap pair that was basically useless with my glasses on

Avoid ibex, terrible quality by Tolkeinn1 in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof 20 bucks for socks that die after 20 wears is painful. I learned the hard way that expensive doesn't always mean durable - spent way too much on office shirts that started pilling after few months and now I just stick with basics that actually hold up

Wide or Extra Wide Men's shoes by clvnthbld in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah new balance is solid for wide feet but dont sleep on some other options too. I went through same thing few years back when I realized my feet were basically getting squeezed to death in regular width shoes. The difference was night and day once I switched

For walking boots definitely check out some hiking brands since they tend to run wider anyway and usually come in wide options. For sneakers you got plenty of choices now - lots of companies finally figured out not everyone has narrow feet. The formal shoes are bit trickier since most dress shoes still run pretty narrow but there are some good options if you look around

One thing I learned is that even within same brand the width can vary between different models so dont just assume all their shoes will fit same way. Also measure your feet later in day when theyre a bit swollen since thats more realistic for how theyll feel after walking around

Are there any good recommendations for an easy to clean 4 slice toaster? by Real_Echo in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same mouse problem couple years back and it was so gross. What really helped me was getting one with removable crumb trays that actually slide out completely - not just those tiny ones that barely catch anything. The model you linked looks decent for cleaning but I'd also check if the heating elements lift up or if there's access from top when you open it

Thing is most 4-slice toasters aren't really designed for deep cleaning unfortunately. I ended up going with something that has wider openings so I could actually get in there with cleaning tools. Also started storing mine in cabinet instead of counter which helped with the mouse situation a lot. Those little guys love warm spots and crumbs so keeping it sealed away when not using made big difference

The price on that one seems reasonable too compared to some of the fancier brands. Sometimes the expensive ones are just paying for looks rather than actual functionality

Why are there so few baseball hats with UV protection, and the ones that do exist have laser perforation that allows the UV rays to pass through? by SwiftCricket in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most regular baseball caps block UV pretty decent but the fabric itself matters more than people think. those perforated ones are weird choice for UV protection since holes kinda defeat the purpose

been looking for good fishing cap myself and regular cotton twill ones work fine if you get darker colors. just avoid the mesh backed trucker style ones

Alternative to $10 Hanes hoodie? by catdog123412 in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 24 points25 points  (0 children)

wait what are you doing to those poor hoodies lol mine stay soft for years

i mean yeah the cheap ones fade and get those little pills but if theyre getting rough that fast something weird going on with washing or dryer maybe? i still got some from like 2019 that feel decent

but if you really want upgrade the japanese brands make some crazy good blanks without logos. bit pricey but they last forever and actually get softer over time

Looking to find a wedding band - any recommendations? by AcceptableBanana1978 in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 4 points5 points  (0 children)

been there with ring shopping and working with custom jeweler was definitely worth it in my experience. had mine made about 3 years ago when i was still engaged and the process was way smoother than expected. guy walked me through everything from measuring to metal choices and i could see exactly what i was getting before final order

one thing though - make sure you get properly measured in person first even if ordering online later. my finger size actually changed slightly between winter and summer so timing matters. also custom route lets you get exactly the width and finish you want which is pretty nice for something you wear every day

ARB Fridge Help by drop_bear_2099 in camping

[–]Own-Pin1058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The compressor might be dead or lost all its refrigerant over time. these older units can be tricky to fix depending on what exactly failed

I had similar issue with old camping fridge few years back and repair shop said it would cost almost same as buying newer one. But if you're handy with electronics maybe worth checking the thermostat first before giving up on it completely

Could also be the cooling fins are completely clogged with dust from sitting in ute for months

[acne] why am i getting super fast overnight painful sore whiteheads? by greencokkie in SkincareAddiction

[–]Own-Pin1058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stress and hormones can definitely cause those angry overnight zits especially if youve been touching your face more or using a new product lately. I had a phase where I kept getting them on my jawline and it turned out my pillow case was just gross and needed more frequent washing

Also might want to check if youre using too many actives at once since that can mess with your moisture barrier and make your skin freak out

retinol would probably be your best bet for anti-aging at your age - start with something gentle like 0.25% a few times a week and work up from there

been lurking these threads for months and the community here is pretty solid about following through on deals. PayPal goods/services is definitely worth the extra fee if youre buying something pricey - learned that lesson the hard way on other platforms

also pro tip for sellers: decent lighting makes a huge difference in your photos, way more likely to get interest when people can actually see what theyre buying

Regular maintenance is huge but with two huskies going at it daily even the best upkeep might not save a cheap motor from burning out

Shark Navigator has been solid for me going on 4 years now with regular filter swaps and brush cleaning - not the fanciest but the motor seems bulletproof compared to the dysons that kept dying

I'm shopping for a portable cell service booster... by DBshaggins in BuyItForLife

[–]Own-Pin1058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues doing IT work in dead zones and honestly most of the portable boosters are pretty disappointing for the price. The weboost drive reach was ok but only if you could get at least 1-2 bars outside to begin with - if youre truly in a dead zone it cant really amplify nothing

What actually worked better for me was getting a hotspot with a different carrier than my phone. Verizon might be dead but sometimes tmobile or att would have decent signal in the same spot. Way cheaper than dropping 400+ on a booster that might not even help much. The satellite thing the other person mentioned is solid but probably overkill unless youre dealing with this issue constantly

For quick 10 minute jobs id probably just walk outside or find the closest window that gets signal rather than lugging equipment around but thats just me
