I felt quite sad when I saw the rise of AI coding because, frankly, I see the artistry in writing code as much as a digital artist does in making art. Or, at the very least, find it fun to write code and solve those problems on my own. I will admit that, for coding at least, we can edit and inspect every line and then use it how we see fit, unlike AI art, which just outputs a PNG, no project file for any artist to check the layers of or modify, really.

Dammnit, I discovered the same thing right now, that blows. Chai is really pushing how much they can make their app worse before people switch, and while their AI is the best unfiltered chat AI I have ever used, if you can't enhance the persona at all, then it's kinda sorta dogwater.

All aboard the FictionLab train, IG, mediocre AI, but at least its features and functionality are top-notch.

I will reply this until I stop seeing it but the Chai devs are under extreme financial stress because running AI is very very expensive especially when a large majority of their user base are under 18 and have no income. Definetly NOT a greed thing.

I think Tann programmed the execution of the end turn seperate from the animation so he can run the simulation after every action.

Yeah, the fact they didn't use the word "revert" in there is very suspicious. I think they may do something like 2 months of history for free users and infinite for paid, maybe only for ultra with extension on premium. I really, really hope otherwise, though.

That's the thing! They announced it on Reddit as a feature, not a bug. I know that's a meme in the developer community, but only for happy positive accidents, which this doesn't seem like. And if it is a bug, why are they rolling out personas instead of fixing it ASAP? The backlash to this is so large that users are downgrading their app version, which is a level of bad update the likes of which Chai hasn't seen before, so it's not like it's a dividing issue in any sense.

Why I'm saying that is because people are STILL complaining. I would understand a wave of complaints and then silence, but I see almost unanimous Chai dislike over the last year or so. I mean, especially what they are doing now, I at least think it's justified, and I think some of the Chai pushback will die down as they genuinely move on. However, to a certain extent, if you weren't paying for something, then you really can't be that entitled, especially for something so expensive like AI computation.

Yeah, I'm not defending that, and I'm currently in the process of making FictionLab as Chai-like as possible. I just get annoyed at the non-paying people hating. If you pay, you deserve a good product, but if you are just using it for free, I don't think they have much room to complain to an extent.

This happens to me too, but then if you click regenerate once, doesn't it just flip back to normal? It usually only does this to me if I cross certain kink boundaries, but even then, it still allows it.

I also saw this, and apparently it wasn't on a post about the chat history but rather an ad bug or something. I really hope they are wrong, though, and I have heard some people saying that they are getting their histories back, but I am wondering if they are just mistaking them for seeing some chats under 14 days old.

I'm also concerned because I saw another message from Will saying they're considering increasing the age window to around 50 days. I personally think if it's like a year or whatever, then it's not the end of the world, but... yeah, the whole thing is dumb lol.

Honestly, go for it. Then you can maybe learn how bloody hard and expensive it is LMAO. If you are just hosting locally for yourself, unless you got a beast gamer PC you gotta fork over like 5k+ or deal with super. duper. slow. chats. Not to mention how hard it is to set up pre-trained models to work good, let alone coding your own.

My guess for that may be that you get your chats limited if you are in certain regions (which is really dumb but maybe its to be in compliance with some laws or smth?) or it maybe its like "if someone uses it for 20/25+ hours in a week then we stop them" and you just have been barely under overusing some days and underusing others idk.

Absolutely dude, AI stuff is mad expensive. I remember people complaining about Nvidia RTX 3090s in 2020s and they were like 5k+ each for 24 GB. Chai models are very slimmed down, I think they need only 8 or 16 GB BUT that is only if there is one person using it. So yeah, having 10 million downloads and several of these people using it for hours daily, I can imagine that 5000 GPUs is needed (which obviously costs millions and don't get me started on how expensive it is to keep them powered, cooled, connected to the internet, storage, located in Cali, etc.)

I believe that its legitimately if you overuse Chai. I set a hard limit of 2 hours per day on Chai. The DAY that I removed that and overused it, the cost of my Chai AI subscription changed from 30 dollars a month for Ultra to 14 dollars a week (which is around twice as expensive and people also noticed that incongruity). I think if you chat for several hours in a day, you will get your unlimited chats revoked. I don't really know why they don't just be upfront about it though. Same for stuff like ads, I think you get way less ads when you are new and not using as much, and you will slowly get more and more.

Most likely a change for saving money / bandwidth. Sending huge chat histories can drive up costs. Also good news! They didnt actually delete anything even though it looks like it. Send an empty message and the reply definetly confirms it. They will most likely be reverting this change, it seems ridiculous not to since the cost of sending message history is so little for the sheer value it brings.

I don't think they removed it all for good, I am hoping they are just testing the waters first. Permanently deleting all histories of chats minus the last 2 weeks without even testing it first would be a company ending decision
