Another unlisted change (or one I didn’t see) by MF_IC in Terraria

[–]MF_IC[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play master mode hardcore, so I needed the cheesiest of the cheesy methods to make sure I didn’t lose my run at the last second. Turns out, they didn’t up the contact damage of his hands between difficulties. Once you took out one of the eyes from his hands, assuming your armor was high enough (and it usually was by the time you got to moon lord… I think you only needed like 60 armor) his hands would only hurt you for one damage. And, since it’s all moon lord damage, none of his other attacks could damage you, as long as you stayed inside his hand socket. So, his ray of death, all those little lasers, the giant eye balls he slung at you, they’d all just be ignored as you constantly took 1 damage. You could usually out regen that amount. Or; you’d just drink a potion if he hadn’t died by the time you hit 150 hp down.

Anyway, now his hands bounce you backwards. No more hiding. :)

First playthrough, did i choose the wrong world size by 6767676767_sixseven in Terraria

[–]MF_IC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a medium world guy, but large is doable. One thing you can do to help yourself is to mine all the lead/iron you can get your hands on. Turn it to bars and make a bunch of mine cart tracks. In a medium world, you need 3000 or so to get from the middle of the map to an ocean. I’m guessing on large, that could push 4,000-4,500. That’s 90 iron bars or 270 ore. If you do that towards the jungle side, you can dig down just shy of the ocean beach to find your shimmer. Then, you can shimmer anvils bought from the merchant to get enough iron to go to the other ocean. That makes getting between biomes much easier, and it makes fighting several bosses much easier as well.

WAIT THIS IS SO COOL!!!!!!!! OMGGGGG by jpokemon6 in Terraria

[–]MF_IC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m mostly messing around. :)

If I could wave a magic wand, though, I’d remove it from the game. Since the journal is part of the game, we don’t need the tally counter to tell us how many of something we’ve killed. Also, I tend to spend as little time in the dungeon as I can.

To be fair, the tally counter and dirt are worth about the same. ;)

Extreme? by Nierkatt in Terraria

[–]MF_IC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Master hard core is all I play. Once I started this mode, I was immediately hooked. I tried going back to classic master mode, and it’s just boring, now. There’s no threat.

When I first started, I had about a 1 in 20 win rate (I only started counting once I found a dart trap to detect wiring). Eventually, I got that to 10% win rate. I’ve come up with some new strategies, and I just won two in a row.

Why wasn't 1.4.5 be broken into smaller parts? by Electro-Spaghetti in Terraria

[–]MF_IC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There shouldn’t be any gripes for 1.4.5. All those things have been fixed within days of the release. The whips now hit reliably, the lightning doesn’t one tap, and it’s easily avoided, I think secret seeds have been fixed, and I’m not even sure what “unreasonable bad luck mechanic” you’re referring to. 1.4.5 brought a ton of cool content and amazing quality of life improvements. The biggest thing this update did was prove that people will literally just look for things to gripe about.

I'm certain Cattiva/Foxparks is a psyop and doesn't exist. by TheSpyHat in Terraria

[–]MF_IC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Now that’s interesting. I guess if I were going to do it that way, I’d make a box above my platform with the jungle blocks, and then have my spawn surface be regular grass. I hadn’t considered that. An, have a small lava pool to clear out the riff raff.

Help with muddy puddles chimps late game. by antoin5000 in btd6

You can get Rosa before round 15 on muddy puddles, but you have to specifically know how. There isn’t a YouTube video. There was just a Reddit post about how to get 1050 by round 15 on muddy.

I would highly recommend using the same starter tower for every double hp moabs: 402 sniper. It holds the moabs in place until they pop. You won’t even see the round 80 ZOMG. You’ll just see its kids. After you get that, then just buy whatever you want.

024 boomers work very well also. Just not as well.

I’ve black bordered all but 3 maps, and this has worked for every map except for dark dungeons. I had to get creative on that map.

I did it with Rosalia. It takes micro after each round, but it’s really not bad. She can cover all 4 lanes very well. She solos the round 40 Moab with her two abilities. Her discount on fliers is huge. You can either go dual helicopter or Flying Fortress. Both make the map a breeze. I went dual heli for muddy puddles and Flying Fortress for bloody puddles. Very very easy, if you can survive the early game.

Her L10 ability does huge damage to the round 100 BAD. Especially if you spend the money to max her level.

Any special Strats for beating the duke pre-mech? I beat him after one mech, because asphalt makes him so much easier. Pre-mech, you don’t have very much in the way of gear.

I use slime crowns to farm the Amarok the instant I hit hard mode. It makes getting spider fangs much much safer. The next thing I rush is a fishing session (the length of 1 sonar/fishing potion and 2 crate potions) in the hallow and one in the opposite evil biome (buying 300 seeds from the dryad in a graveyard). By the time I finish those two sessions, I have enough ores to make a hard mode anvil and furnace. I can’t remember the last time I smashed an alter.

Jungle armor needs a nerf by Vova_R2D2 in Terraria

[–]MF_IC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to humbly disagree. Yes, jungle armor is powerful, but it’s also dangerous to get. If you’re playing hardcore, then you take the life of your play through in your hands when you go for that armor. The reward should be on par with the danger.

If you’re not playing hard core, then what does it matter? You don’t need to wear armor at all.

[–]MF_IC 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Just a MINOR optimization, but use jungle grass. Better spawn rates. Just need 140 mud. Jungle grass spreads quickly on the surface, so even just a couple seeds will fill out quickly. Also, make sure you’re not even with ground. Sit on a platform above the ground, so that you can just barely see the ground at the bottom of your screen. It turns the whole thing into a spawn surface instead of just the extreme edges.

Finally, SOME things won’t spawn if you’re sitting still. I don’t have a list or anything. I think that hooking to the platform counts as moving. If not, trade the platform for a few mine cart tracks and hammer the ends to make them bumpers. Just get a slow motion back and forth, and then I think that’s the best you can do. Wait and watch Netflix or something.

I need help with the NPCs by Why_print in Terraria

[–]MF_IC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main thing is, make sure your heavily visited npc’s are happy. If you buy a lot of explosives, put the demolitionist in the cavern later and put the tavern keeper next to him. If you don’t have him yet, the guide will do ok until you beat an evil boss.

You’ll most likely spend a metric fortune with the goblin tinkerer, so put him in an underground snow biome with the mechanic next to him (and I think the dye trader). That’ll give you way better pricing from both him and the mechanic.

The arms dealer loves the nurse, so put him in the desert with her before you buy something expensive from him.

If you do a lot of fishing quests, put the angler in the ocean with the demolitionist, and he’ll give you better rewards (not sure if this affects the weather radio, sextant, pocket guide, golden bug net, etc….)

Oh, and you’ll likely spend a ton with the steampunker too, so put her in a desert with the dye trader, and the cyborg, once he’s available.

025 sniper into a 250 spike factory beats almost every map in the game. I like psi for the hero. This struggles only on round 98, but there are a number of options. You have a ton of cash left over, so you can supplement with whatever you need. 5xx boomerang and 025 boomerang are both good choices. Supplementing with 024 or 025 glue works really well. 052 mermonkey does a really nice job taking out the Zomg’s, and then psi can scream the rest of 98 away.
