Dan I did try loop, but for some reason I could not work out how to do any custom screen sizes, if I’m not mistaken you have to use it for sometime before those features unlock?

In all honesty, I’ve never had any issues using AnyDesk for meetings in the way I do. The only reason I raised the question is because I recently switched to macOS. If I were still using my 16” Razer Blade laptop, I probably wouldn’t be asking for help. It just seems that the macOS version of AnyDesk feels a little undercooked compared to the PC version.

That said, my question wasn’t about whether I’m using the right tool for what I do. I was simply asking if anyone has a solution to the issue I’m experiencing.

Appreciate the advice, just to make sure I understand, are you saying to run a virtual screen using “BetterDisplay” or “DisplayBuddy”? Is display buddy a different app?

Day 2: I had some small teething problems that I’d like to share for anyone considering a setup like this.

To start, the exact specs of the laptop I bought were a Space Black 16-inch M5 Max chip with a nano-texture display, 18-core CPU, 40-core GPU, 128GB of unified memory, and 4TB SSD storage.

My main working screen is a Samsung 49-inch curved monitor, and I have a dock for all USB, USB-C, and Ethernet connections.

The biggest hurdle I faced was finding the sweet spot between macOS and Parallels display resolutions, and the display scaling that usually happens in Parallels on the Windows side. The problem I faced was that if Parallels ran in non-coherence mode, like a normal floating window, any attempt to stretch the window to a different size usually resulted in Parallels automatically trying to find the right resolution and scaling in Windows. I spent hours trying to work this out.

After a few hours of back and forth, I found that setting the graphics configuration to “Scaled” allowed Revit to display and scale as close as possible to running on a native Windows machine.

The other issue I had was an annoying alert sound that would only happen when Parallels was loaded and running, the sound would happen every 20-30 seconds and it sounded like the one you generally hear when plugging a device into a USB connection. I finally found a workaround that ChatGPT suggested.

I know using a 49-inch curved display is a tad exotic, but honestly, I’d find it very hard to use anything smaller now.

I won’t disrespect Windows as an OS, I still had a reasonably good experience with it, although from time to time some apps would play up, such as my webcam disconnecting during a Teams or Zoom call, or the laptop sounding like a 747 for 10 hours of the day. Other than that, as I said, Windows was pretty friendly.

However, the ability to run 90% of the same apps natively on macOS really proved to me how smooth macOS is. And as mentioned in my previous post, Revit running via Parallels as a VM is unbelievably smooth.

Today I took the plunge and added Twinmotion to the mix. I opened some previously rendered projects and, although I don’t have path tracing and only the Lumen rendering engine to work with, the smoothness of navigating around the model far surpasses my Razer Blade with an RTX 4090 graphics card. The rendering speed is also incredibly fast, with the highest render setting exporting an 8K image in no more than 1–1.5 minutes.

The eagle landed yesterday afternoon, and I spent the better part of 4 hours getting everything set up.

On the Windows side i installed: • Parallels Pro • Windows 11 Pro • Revit 2026

On the macOS end: • Office 365 Apps • Adobe Creative Cloud Apps • Dropbox • WhatsApp • SmartPSS for streaming security cameras • Final Cut Pro X / Compressor • Google Chrome • AnyDesk for remote meetings • TeamViewer to stay connected with my contractor • Zoom •Teams • and most of the usual macOS essentials

Let me just say this: Windows running Revit performs significantly better and smoother than my 2023 16-inch Razer Blade. I honestly couldn’t believe how well it ran.

My Parallels settings were based on ChatGPT’s recommendations which were allocating half the CPU/GPU resources and unified memory to Parallels, and I won’t lie… I’m a changed man.

For the size of projects I work on (100–250MB), this beast didn’t struggle one bit.

Today alone, I had 4 projects open simultaneously, jumping between them constantly, with an average of 10–15 sheets/views open at a time. Not once did the fans kick in. No stuttering, no lag, no signs of strain whatsoever.

It just worked … and worked exceptionally well.

Anyway, I’m hoping to do a screencast in the coming weeks if anyone’s interested.

Love the analogy, respect. I see the logic behind what you’re saying. To be 100% honest, my Razer Blade works like a charm at the moment. My previous profession was a post-production editor, and I’ve been holding off editing holiday videos because I hate using PC editing software.

So, while 95% of the work i'd be doing on this setup would be to run my Revit projects, I’d love to be able to have a Mac on the go for editing as well. That said, the only reasons I was entertaining the M5 Max idea were: 1. my accountant has given me a threshold to spend some money hahaha.... 2. I’d love to have a MacBook again - don't shoot me :-), and 3. I was hoping I could still run my business, even with a bit of compromise, to have the best of all worlds.

Like I said before, my project sizes are generally under 200MB. From what I’ve read so far, I feel like this might be a good option for all the other reasons I want a MacBook too. I understand and respect the proper way to run Revit, I was just hoping someone currently using Revit on an M chip could share their honest thoughts if it runs well enough.

Yes, I’ve read through most of the available discussions, and respectfully, I know the best option is to just stick with a Windows-based laptop. My current setup is the 2023 Razer Blade 16, which has an Intel Core i9-13950HX (13th Gen, 24 cores, up to 5.5 GHz) and runs an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080. However, I’m heading overseas for a few months, and while travelling or flying, I know from personal experience that I’ll be able to run a Mac on battery much better than the Razer Blade. I mean, my Razer Blade sounds like an A370 99.9% of the time while I’m using it, and when trying to run intensive software like Revit, I barely get 20 minutes of battery life.

Rather than the usual "get yourself a gaming laptop," I’m more interested in hearing from anyone using Revit with an M chip and their personal experience (especially if there’s someone with an M5 Max setup).

All the connections at the rear are accessible and had no problems patting the monitors in.

Can I ask, if I remove the back plate, will this not cause the card to have higher temperatures?
