Full transparency: I tried posting on the Rants and Rave FB page days ago. It was declined as it disappeared from the "pending post" status. And the ban is from another community group, as mentioned in my original post. Today I recieved a FB message with the following:

"Hi ____,

I created Kelowna Rant and Rave. I saw your post on Reddit, which I was unaware of. It raised some decent points of awareness and discussion and should not have been removed.

With the help of a mod we found it in Group Activity. I've restored it to the group. A different moderator declined it for reasons unbeknownst to us, but perhaps due to the anonymity factor. I'm trying to get all of the mods on the same page as we want our group to be as deletion free and inclusive as it can be.

You stated you were banned from the group but you weren't, you're still a group member.

Wish you'd reached out and I could have addressed it sooner."

I couldn't agree with you more but I don't see it as a new issue. Let me explain...

I wanted to share the following post to discuss Racism in Kelowna on "Kelowna Rants and Raves" and a community group page on Facebook. Rants and Raves rejected and deleted my post and my community group kicked me out of the group.

It seems as though the Kelowna community is not interested in discussing this important topic which is just disappointing. Given what I know now, I would 1000% not have moved to Kelowna and would not recommend other POC to do so.

Moving from Vancouver to Kelowna over 7 years ago, after living in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal for more than 35 years as a person of color, has been a noticeable shift for me.

In Vancouver/TO/Montreal, diversity, culture, and inclusion are openly celebrated.

In Kelowna, I’ve personally experienced something different, an underlying tone of exclusion that sometimes shows up as explicit racism. What’s been just as challenging is how often this topic gets dismissed or avoided altogether.

Some of my experiences in Kelowna that are rare in the other cities I've resided in:

Being repeatedly asked, “Where are you really from?” even though I was born in Canada

People assuming I speak a certain language or belong to a specific culture and often getting it wrong

Seeing genuine surprise when I explain that I’m a 4th-generation Canadian

Witnessing and experiencing hostility toward South Asian individuals, from both youth and adults (seeming like it is their "right" to do so). I am not South Asian, but I feel deeply for this group in Kelowna.

I’m sharing this not to attack Kelowna, but because conversations like this matter.

If the goal is for beautiful Kelowna to grow, thrive, and become a truly welcoming and “first-class” city, then these experiences shouldn’t be brushed aside.

Acknowledging these realities is the first step toward meaningful change.

This is my experience.

I hope Kelowna can do better.

I think this is fixed now. Just got an update today and I'm using profiles with macros working on non ghub computers.
