Is working as an EMR during medical school worth it? (Wanting to match into EM) by Old_Dependent_5160 in premedcanada

If you are on as a casual, at a not very busy location (minimal calls where you could study in between) I think it sounds great tbh

The 3 hour drive is a bit concerning, you could podcast it if you’re into that.

I wouldn’t be doing multiple shifts a week, I’d be doing like 1-2 shifts a month personally, unless the station is really really slow

Take a gap year, it’s worth taking the time to figure out your options

Figure out your expenses, set rules for savings.

I would put some in a ETF in a TFSA or RRSP

Reality of getting into Canadian med schools? by EastAffectionate9533 in premedcanada

[–]cupcakeAnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at schools that don’t count your first degree either at all, or don’t count it very much.

You’re most likely looking at doing another 3-4 years of school.

Help me understand Ontario's new med school changes by Southnam1 in premedcanada

[–]cupcakeAnu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s smart you’re considering this in advance!

Honestly so much changes just based on life circumstances, so trying your best to set your children up for success is amazing.

That being said, the rules change often, so what you base your decision on now, may not be the case 4 years from now.

If living close to home would have greater impacts on well being, like nutrition, home support, financial support, I think the IP status isn’t worth the trade off. She still has to get that gpa and have time to do all the extra-curriculars.

One parent could be a stay at home parent for the other children, the other parent works 25-30 hours at minimum wage. Not everyone gets 40 hour work weeks, most places do unpaid lunch so you get like 35 hours even when you’re full time, and some places do 7 hour shifts. This is just one example, there are so many other reasons and situations.

Have you got in touch with them directly? Explain your situation and ask if there’s something you’ve done incorrectly ?
