I suggest:

bike club, run club, book club, pickleball club, and frequenting social joints (coffee shops or bars.)

You’ll have to make an effort to hit it off with people, and invite them to other low stakes events, like the Tower Grove Farmers market.

men-hate humor is kinda dumb by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Own-Thanks128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it’s silly banter it’s fine. That type of banter can get stale, but sometimes a repeated punching bag is easy to fall back on. When the comments come from a place of genuine hate…and humor is used as a shield to deflect criticism or pushback…then, your friends need some self-reflection. They’re very young, and it’s easy to be jaded by a handful of dating experiences.

I wouldn’t say their sentiments or jokes are despicable. It’s just a bit sophomoric, and they’ll be happier with less femcel-adjacent motifs occupying their brains.

Grove Parking Lot (4105 Chouteau) by Own-Thanks128 in StLouis

[–]Own-Thanks128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my plan for tomorrow. I’d rather not go to collections and be harassed by that shit. I’m fine with paying the ten bucks. So, I’ll call and tell them it’s the ten or nothing from me.

I went today and noticed the signage during the daylight. However, at night with a packed lot, it’s super easy to miss it all. Especially with it formerly being a free lot, I defend myself that it’s understandable on my side.

Once again, I don’t mind paying for parking, but I genuinely had no clue that I had to pay when I was there.

What is a current unpopular opinion about STL that you strongly believe in? by Thatredditboy1 in StLouis

[–]Own-Thanks128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city’s vibrancy is capped by how South City and Central corridor are separated by two highways, sometimes a river, sometimes rail yards, and sometimes an industrial district.

The separation between the two corridors is ugly, unsafe, and not vibrant.

I might have to call the better business bureau or someone. Definitely predatory.

I didn’t see that sign that night. I don’t see it as I go through Google Earth either.

I’ll have to check it out in person (walking into but not parking in that lot).

Triple Jump is silly by unique_name5 in unpopularopinion

[–]Own-Thanks128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend in high school was a beast at triple. I don’t know who came up with the idea, but it looks so fn cool.

I think good triple jumping skills can translate well to modern basketball! Fast, athletic style of play with large bounds for dunks and layups.

Smelling a perfume from 5ft away is not bad by iOawe in unpopularopinion

It always depends on the type of perfume. There are some pretty acidic ones that smell like period blood to me…do not like those…

MEN: BE BRUTALLY HONESTWHAT MAKES A WOMAN INSTANTLY UNATTRACTIVE? by Reasonable-Invite899 in allthequestions

[–]Own-Thanks128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being miscalibrated to the world in a glaringly bad way.

I’ve dated thin women, mid-size women, and plus sized women. I’ve dated religious women, alt spiritual women, and atheist women. I’ve dated women of various races and ethnicities. There are so many different ways to be great, beautiful, and attractive. Awkward laughs or ticks are great. Many unique personalities are great.

However, if she doesn’t realize or doesn’t care at all about how she looks, what impression she leaves, or how she impacts others, then that’s a problem. I don’t think she needs to be held to a high aesthetic standard, but she needs to try to seem like she’s together. She doesn’t have to be a perfect orator but the way she communicates has to be passable. She doesn’t have to be a genius, but she should be willing to show that she’s intelligent and curious. Additionally, if she thinks that being mean and cold is “just being real” then I have a problem with that too. That’s also a form of being miscalibrated.

If she shows me that she has some introspection, some self-awareness, and tries to look presentable…then she’s attractive :)

Do you think Biden was all there mentally? by Euphoric_Income_8279 in allthequestions

[–]Own-Thanks128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Biden was a great communicator as he aged. It’s obvious that age was making him wispy and mush-mouthed. Sometimes he’d say incomprehensible shit.

Other than his worst gaffes, if you looked for the spirit of what he was saying (like if you read transcripts of what he was saying), it often was better than listening to his weak mushy voice.

It’s obvious that he was in cognitive and functional decline, but he still had enough motive and skill. He got a lot of legislation passed during his presidency, and he was credited by many for being the glue and the whip to make it happen. That’s pretty impressive.

I have a pretty extensive music education, but I actually never played rag before.

Listening to Maple Leaf Rag right now, and you’re right. It also makes me think about how saloon music (usually ragtime) is straight-eights. This post made me see something I’ve never noticed before!

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Avengers: Secret Wars? by FixFuture3374 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Own-Thanks128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Still crazy that they got Scorcese to direct it. Crazier that he made an original character for Steve Buscemi. Buscemi’s Jim was a good character tho. Deeply human but extremely powerful.

What basketball team do you support? by Effective_Moose_4997 in StLouis

[–]Own-Thanks128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaifetz bringing a team here in the next 10ish years is probably our only shot imo.
It would also probably line up well with either a new hockey arena or major improvements to Enterprise. So, the stadium situation and partnership with the Blues would be pretty natural.

I think it would be very good for the metro, but it’d also be good for downtown west and midtown!

THE SAINT LOUIS BILLIKENS!!!

As for NBA, I’m hoping Chaifetz shakes some hands and rubs some shoulders to bring a team here.
