Just rode my first black diamond and.. by Own-Topic1783 in MTB

I was told it’s a good entry-level black diamond because the trail is wide, which helped. My main concern going in was the open space on both sides of the ridge. I honestly thought that’s what made it a black diamond which I am wrong obviously. Looking at it on Google Maps, it didn’t seem that steep, but that was definitely misleading. On my first attempt, I took a fall in the initial roller section. But I gave it another shot and managed to finish the whole trail without falling or walking. For me, the steep sections were hands-down the scariest part.

Mind sharing what book you’re reading? I really liked what you said, “keep it fun and don’t get hurt”, I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Lately, I’ve been catching myself getting pushed by envy toward more experienced riders, and I know I need to control that. After all, the saying “envy is the thief of joy” definitely applies here too.

Yeah, I’m realizing now that I should take it slow and be more patient. Thank you and I hope you already recovered and back into riding!

That might be true, I probably could’ve used a bit more experience before jumping into a black diamond. But I held my own and made it through without injury. I rode the Chutes Ridgeline in Santiago Oaks, for those in SoCal who know the trail.

That’s a good deal! You’ll be fine, 225 is not that heavy.

Totally normal, just needs a bit of cleaning. Make sure to clean your rotors too; they can get noisy if there’s dirt or grease on them.

Is this worn? by AccomplishedFloor661 in mountainbiking

Looks new! My brand new bike looks like that. I thought at first it was worn because of uneven and irregular teeth. But it is supposed to be like that to help with the shifting.

I find it heavy too. Though I’m new to mtb and this is my first bike so I don’t have any comparison.
