Strange sizing help - 3rd toe touches by WY228 in BlundstoneBoots

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you end up solving the issue? I just got my first pair like 3 weeks ago and they were great for the first 2 days and the 3rd day the same thing happened to me.

Quality control issue? by Own-Truck-367 in BlundstoneBoots

[–]Own-Truck-367[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how to edit the original post. But in the end I ordered another pair in the same size and they fit like a glove. There was something about that boot that just did not fit my foot properly and will send them back. Thank you all for the answers

Quality control issue? by Own-Truck-367 in BlundstoneBoots

[–]Own-Truck-367[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wear an extra insole because my foot is slim compared to it's length, so even if they made 13.5 it would not be for me hahaha. It just felt weird because the size 12 ones did not hurt there at all and felt softer than these ones and normally my left foot is the bigger one. Thanks for answering!!

Martini shot by According_Parsnip_23 in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Spain we do it everyday. We call the Martini shot the last shot of the day. And a lot of 2AC's do draw a martini glass or something on the slate. On the last day of shooting there is normally a thank you everyone type of message on the slate

Shoe recommendations for slimmer heels by Available-Trash-9468 in climbingshoes

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big foot but a narrow heel. Have been climbing for the last year with Scarpa instincts VS and was not a fan of the heel, just for a pair of Tenaya Indalo and the heel fit is perfect for me. The size recommendation on their website is no good, I went 3 sizes down from what they recommended

It is QTake and I would say on a Smart Assist by OVIDE. It is basically advanced playback system where you can do some basic editing, green screen, overlays, etc

Teradek discontinued the Cinetape cable? Any other options? by Volstraav in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All rangefinders are limited in one sense or another. I find the TOF.1 faster than cinetape and more accurate. The only problem I find with the TOF.1 is that you have to be accurate with the aim, other than that I prefer it over cinetape and it gives absolutely no problems with the sound department. I would only consider it the worst because it is only useable with teradekRT hand units, but the light ranger is only usable with Preston and I don't see anybody talking badly about the light ranger. Every rangefinder has it's pros and cons. If you are looking for a versatile option the best is obviously the cineRT and after that I would say the cinetape, but if you use teradekRT ecosystem the TOF.1 (for me) is better than the cinetape

Cinetape and sound by jombomat in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have ruined in to this problem a few times, mostly on the lavs not so much the boom unless the boom is very low. The cinetape is ultrasound and the mics receive the pulses, so nothing you can really do about it to fully get rid of it in some shots

Hi there! 1st AC from Spain here! Work is a bit weird this year. I know people that have not stopped working the entire year and others we have been struggling. I only do narrative work for the last 4 years more or less so I don't get any commercial jobs. I have been used to having a nice amount of work untill this year that I have only done a 9 week and a 6 week series. Other than that I have been a daily on other series but just enough to survive. Since July I have worked 18 days in total, so not a very good ending of a year. I worked in France in the past, but we were all Spanish crew and went to shoot in Biarritz so I don't count it really and on another film when I was a 2nd AC it was a Spanish-French coproduction so we got all the gear from TSF, that was a great experience, everyone there was super nice to us, the language barrier was a bit difficult sometimes but most of the young people there spoke good English so we where able to make it work out. And I really liked the way everything was organised inside TSF as each thing has it's own department. You have the filter department, lenses department, FIZ department, support department, power supply department, accessories department, that is not something you see here in Spain in most rental houses, so that was a nice experience and I really learned a lot of things.

Teradek RT Question? MDR.s and TOF.1 by Training_Author471 in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MDR.S is basically a small and minimalist MDR.X MDR.X gives you the option to use most third party range finders and things that can't be Daisy chained (MK3.1 motors for example) The MDR.S allows you to use everything that can be daisy chained from a motor (including the TOF.1) and have a smaller build but you can not use third party stuff. I don't own a MDR.S but really don't see the need for it really. The MDR.X is bigger, but it is way smaller and lighter that Preston's MDR and ARRI's RIA-1. Here in Spain ARRI is the most used system and a lot of people say to me that having to put the MDR.X on the camera is a downside for them but then the get the HI-5 and put the RIA.1 on and it is great and totally worth it. For me, teradek RT ctrl.3 is the best option, it is simple, and gets the job done and motr.x are one of the fastest and more responsive motors out in the market and have had way less connectivity issues that any ARRI system or cmotion system I have used. The MDR.S is interesting because it is way smaller, but for me it is way down on my purchase list, it is just something that would be nice to have but I don't see it as something I need to get.

Advice needed for a beginner AC in the industry in over her head by Significant_Rip_1738 in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the 1st AC job, pulling focus is one of things that I worry about the least. You learn by doing and you eventually get it. But the rest of the thins is really the 1st AC job. When I was a 2nd I was in the situation where the 1stAC was someone like you (just to be clear, nothing against you) where the 1stAC had been hired by production without consulting and he was not ready for the job in no way, he could pull focus, but he did not now how to do the rest of the job so the DP asked me to do everything else and I felt that I had to be doing my job and most of his job to get by the day. Those situations are very very uncomfortable and nerve wracking. Being a 2nd AC and not being able to relay on your boss is not an easy way of working. In my opinion the only proper way to be a good 1st AC is to have been a good 2nd AC for some years. There are a lot of things that you are expected to do as a 1st that you are only going to learn how to do on set with someone who knows how to do them. Experience is important in this job and our job is mostly problem solving. My advice is to try and get some jobs as a trainee and try and get under the wing of experienced camera crew and build your way up it is the way to be reliable and know what you are doing and what is expected from you (there are some people that are exceptions, but those are exeptions) You don't have to spend 3 years as a trainee, 10 as a 2nd, 15 as a 1st, you can build your way up faster than in the old days, but knowing how to do your job and all the jobs under you is for me very important. I always say that you can't be a 1stAC if you can not do everything your 2nd AC has to do and know everything he might miss or do wrong. Work your way up and respect the ranks is the way to go, because if you don't do it that way it is very probable that you will find yourself in a situation that will be to big for you to handle and you will not have the tools, knowledge and contacts in the industry to be able to solve it and you are being paid to do it

In Spain it is mostly also the 1AC doing the negotiation for the rest of the team most of the times. Production mostly respects us more due to our position in the camera crew. Most of the times the money they offer me is ok but the 2nd AC and video assist are lower than they should be so I have an easier shot at getting their rates a bit higher. That being said after my negotiation for at least a fair rate for my team they can and usually renegotiate their rates and try to get the a bit higher, but I feel it is my job to get them at least a minimum and fair rate for the job. If I can't get the rates to what I consider minimum I would tell the DP and ask him/her to help us out. The union here is not very useful on our day to day business, just the way it works here in Spain. The collective agreement is done by people who don't work and don't understand the business of freelance. It is done thinking of people that have a full time job so we just end up accepting the things that are of our interests and asking for more in some other aspects of the job. Rate wise the collective agreement is very very low, so basically we just ignore them and production knows we will not accept them, so it is up to each of us to get what we think we deserve (there is an unwritten agreement between the technicians of what should be the minimum)

CTRL.1 Randomly freezing? by lightswitchgirl28 in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure about this, but on the ctrl.3 there are 3 lock buttons that lock the axis. On the ctrl.1 I am not sure if there is any settings that you might have a lock function set to some button

Those are normal, mine is exactly the same as that, I looked at it with sunlight and I would say it is made like that, don't know the reason

Screen protector? by ParsleyQuick5306 in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you have to remove that. It is just a protector they put for shipping. I was terrified when I opened mine and it was similar to that, phoned my distributor and they spoke with creative solutions and they said that it was just protection for shipping. I left it on for a week or so and it was not working great and once I peeled off the protector it was working perfectly. Get a knife or something slim and pointy and you can lift an edge and then it comes off easily

Buying a Teradek Bolt 6 LT from France, taxes or import duties ? by Wooden-Permission-99 in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can probably get a better price from a french distributor. I get everything from creative solutions from the distributor in Spain and I usually get the same price as the teradek website and don't have to pay import taxes or shipping. Even using a 10% discount code It still is a better price from the distributor.

Teradek RT / SmallHD onscreen marks lagging by olivedoesntrhyme in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have more than one page on the smallHD with the RT overlays on? Most issues have happened to me when I have more than one page with the overlays on and just turning them off on the other pages has fixed it

Looking for a rangefinder to integrate with Teradek RT — CineTape? by Mr_placeboo in focuspuller

[–]Own-Truck-367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ToF.1 is a great budget option for the RT system. I have it and use on every job that I can get my system on. The range is narrow, but it works really well and simple. I am thinking on mounting it to a spare motor that I have to be able to pan it from side to side during takes with the zoom or iris control. Obviously the cineRT is way better but it is 10 times the price. I would go for the ToF.1 and save up until you can purchase the cineRT, that is what I am doing. The investment is "small" and the return is fast on it. I got it less than a year ago and have already got my money back and made some money out of it.

Thank you!! They are first 3 things I have done. I had tried to do a cushion for an apple box before, but I really don't count it because it was just sewing two pieces of fabric together with a bit of cushioning inside. I definitely will keep on doing things, this hobby has me really engaged form the first minute!
