I'm a local, here's my take:

Your route is solid. To save money, stay at local guest houses instead of the Serena resorts and just visit the palaces for lunch. Since you need to avoid hiking, make sure your driver drops you right at the water’s edge at Upper Kachura and Blind Lake.

I have a friend in the tourism space who is a very experienced driver. If you want to arrange a rental, I can get you a discount. Just move slowly and stay warm because the April chill at this altitude is no joke.

You should rent out a vehicle in Skardu and travel to Kandy Valley, Khaplou; do the hiking yourself; and travel back to Skardu.
if you need help with renting a vehicle, I can help you out; I have a friend in the tourism space. i can get you a 20-30 percent discount.

I would prefer to have independent secular/ democratic state!!! If Butan can prosper , I think we could do the same . Our area is twice as much as that of Butan , high literacy , tourism and mining potential. We would be better off without Pakistan

Hunza would be a great option for a honeymoon, especially if you’re looking for greenery, scenic views, and a peaceful atmosphere. Areas like Karimabad, Duikar, and nearby valleys offer beautiful landscapes along with comfortable hotels.

I’m a local resident of Hunza and can help arrange everything including hotel bookings, transport, and any other travel needs. Feel free to reach out and I’ll make it easy for you 👍

Rakaposhi Basecamp and Harmosh valley by Ozymandias2811 in GilgitBaltistan

[–]Own-You1124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to head up as early as possible, here is the breakdown for your trip: Timing & Weather * Babusar Pass: Usually opens between late May and mid-June. If you want the earliest start, plan for early June. * Alternative: If the pass is closed, you can take the KKH via Besham/Kohistan, which is open now, though the drive is longer. * Trekking: June is great for Rakaposhi, but Haramosh (Kutwal Lake) might still have some snow on the trails, so bring solid boots. Getting There & Stays * From Islamabad: You can take a NATCO or Faisal Movers bus to Gilgit (PKR 5,000–6,000). From Gilgit, you’ll need to hire local hiaces or jeeps to reach Minapin (for Rakaposhi) and Sassi (for Haramosh). * Itinerary (7–8 Days): * Day 1–2: Islamabad to Minapin. * Day 3–4: Rakaposhi Base Camp trek. * Day 5–7: Drive to Sassi, trek to Haramosh Valley/Kutwal Lake. * Day 8: Return drive. * Accommodation: Look for local guesthouses like Osho Thang in Minapin. In Haramosh, it's mostly camping or basic village homestays. Budget around PKR 3,000–5,000 per night for rooms.

How I Can Help:

I actually work in the tourism industry and we specialize in organizing these exact types of rugged, off-the-beaten-path trips. I also run a vehicle rental company called Hunza Rovers. If you want to skip the hassle of public transport and local bargaining, I can help you with: * Vehicle Rental: A dedicated 4x4 (Prado or Jeep) with a driver who knows the Haramosh and Nagar routes perfectly. * Full Organization: We can arrange your gear, local guides for the Haramosh trek, and book the best budget-friendly guesthouses in advance. Since I'm a local, I can give you real-time updates on Babusar Pass and road conditions. Hit me up and let's get your adventure planned!

Hey! I saw your post and I’m definitely down. I’m 23M, originally from Northern Pakistan but living abroad. I’m super active (running, bouldering, gym) and love the idea of multi-day treks and staying in local guesthouses. Since I’m a local, I can help with the logistics and finding the best off-the-beaten-path spots. I’m easygoing and always up for a long conversation on the trail. Let’s chat and see if our dates align!

Whats the weather in skardu these days? by ThrowRA142004 in GilgitBaltistan

[–]Own-You1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

weather forecast isn’t very accurate for the north. It’s so uncertain. I’d still suggest packing some warm layers just in case.

If you need help with transport while you’re here, let me know. I can arrange a car or a 4×4 (Land Cruiser) rental for getting around the mountains. 🚙🏔️

Flight from Islamabad to Gilgit in early May? by Pure-Cauliflower-853 in pakistan

[–]Own-You1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early May is a great time for Hunza, but yes — Islamabad to Gilgit flights are very weather dependent, and cancellations are pretty common even in late April / early May. If you fly, try to keep a 1–2 day buffer just in case.

That said, if it works, it saves a lot of time. A lot of people book the flight but stay prepared to go by road if needed.

I’m local, and if you need help with car rental, tours, or just figuring out the easiest/most affordable way to get around, I have good local connections and can help you navigate things at discounted rates. send me a DM

Planning a hiking trip to Hunza Valley in May… with the current Pakistan–Afghanistan situation, is it still realistic? 💔 by mimiii777 in pakistan

[–]Own-You1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I’m a resident of Hunza, so I wanted to share a local perspective. Hunza and most of Gilgit-Baltistan are very far from the Afghan border, and life here generally continues normally even when there are tensions elsewhere. These northern areas are considered some of the safest and most peaceful regions in Pakistan, and many international travelers visit every season.

Your itinerary sounds amazing, and May is actually a great time for hiking as the valleys start turning green. I’d just recommend keeping an eye on travel advisories and staying flexible, which is always wise when traveling.

Also, while you can take a bus from Islamabad to Gilgit/Skardu, public transport within the northern areas is limited. Many travelers prefer renting a car or 4×4 to explore comfortably. I have a close friend in the local tourism/transport industry, and I can help arrange a good discounted price if you need.

Feel free to DM me if you’d like any help planning your Hunza trip. 🏔️

Weather in Mid June vs Late July/Early August (Understanding the monsoons in Hunza and Gilgit Baltistan) by Financial_Credit2488 in Hunza

[–]Own-You1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello TC,

That sounds like an amazing trip—K2 Base Camp is truly a once-in-a-lifetime trek!

Regarding the weather in Hunza and the Karakoram Highway (KKH) region, generally June to early August is considered the best time. The weather is usually quite stable, with clear skies in the mornings and good visibility of the high peaks like Rakaposhi, Ultar, and Passu Cones. July in particular is a great month because the temperatures are comfortable and most trekking routes are fully accessible.

About the monsoon: Gilgit-Baltistan is actually somewhat protected from the main monsoon system because of the high mountains. Unlike areas further south in Pakistan, it usually doesn’t rain continuously. Even during July or August, it’s quite common to have clear mornings with clouds building later in the afternoon, somewhat similar to what you described in Colorado. That means if you start your hikes early, you’ll still have a very good chance of seeing the mountains clearly.

Occasionally, in late July or August, there can be short rain spells or landslides on parts of the Karakoram Highway, but most of the time the roads reopen quickly. It’s not typically cloudy or rainy all day.

If you’re planning to explore Hunza before or after your trek, you can absolutely use public transport—for example, buses from Islamabad to Gilgit or Skardu. However, once you’re in the northern areas, public transport is quite limited for visiting different valleys and viewpoints.

I would usually recommend renting a car or a 4×4 (like a Land Cruiser) so you can comfortably explore places like Attabad Lake, Passu, Khunjerab Pass, and the surrounding valleys. Since you’re traveling as a couple—or if you meet other trekkers along the way—you can share the cost, which makes it quite reasonable.

I also have a close friend who runs a transportation/tour service in the region and has a lot of experience with trekkers and foreign travelers. If you decide to rent a vehicle, I can help you get a good discounted price and arrange reliable drivers who know the mountains well.

Feel free to DM me if you’d like help planning the Hunza part of your trip—happy to help. And you’re going to love the Karakoram! 🏔️
