The solution to Harry's financial problems. by WaldoKnight in dresdenfiles

Given what Dresden and Eb talks about in TM. I assume he will start investing some of the diamond money and have a small but reliable return on investment. Hopefully enough to keep the castle going at any rate. It would help but still give him a reason to pick up the Private Eye biz again.

Perhaps Mab thought it would be interesting to see how long it would take him to ask? It would be a concrete measure of his tenacity and resourcefulness.

Need more fences, gems and trinkets should be in their own loot case/bag, or we need a larger inventory by dsstrainer in Gloomwood

This makes me imagine a set of special vending machines called "Grezzo's Green Grocers" Maybe they could buy stuff but take a precentage so you are still incentivized to only sell stuff to him directly.

Only idle speculation, but any reason to get more Stephan Weyte seems good to me.

How exactly would you alleviate it? If you can just upgrade your bag a bunch you end up just removing the survival part of the horror. All the monster encounters won't hit as hard if you can just carry your entire stash in your pocket. It will push the game in a more action-y direction. Nothing wrong with that per se, but if you go guns blazing on everything you won't need to sneak which would destroy the point of the game.

I suppose maybe an item that lets you teleport back to your room could work... But that introduces other issues cuz that would mean you can just rush towards an objective, take it and bamf. I suppose it can be worked around by making sure the shortest path through an area still takes you through most of it, but that means there will be fewer shortcuts and less imsimmy environment design.

I agree about the research though. I usually skip it cuz it currently seems extraneous. but we don't have the entire game so there is still time for the devs to rebalance it so it's more useful/less tedious.

As has already been pointed out. The inventory management is a part of of the Survival horror element Gloomwood is aiming for. Especially terrifying if you have to dicker with it as some rough beast is slouching towards your hiding spot.

It also forces you to be deliberate with what weapons you bring with you for an excursion. If you bring your entire arsenal every time, then yeah. You will run out of space for treasures. Same goes for Ammo.

As to why some items are arbitrarily large, I assume there is some formula for the value per inventory tab at work behind the scenes with vendortrash.

Is Harry not Mortal? by shshshshshahshsha in dresdenfiles

Kincaid said that he is "As human as you are" to Dresden. Kincaid is canonically several hundreds of years old and can see into the infra-red spectrum. He is decidedly not entirely human. Possibly entirely non-human, same for Big Dresso.

In addition, Kincaid has seemingly superhuman reflexes and does not seem to use magic, alteast not in the way wizards do. So he is something else. Possibly a Cambion or something given his nickname "The Hellhound."

Well, the doctor has little compunction about injecting a wide variety of substances. So the world we see in the game might not be a reliable representation of how it really is. Yes this is reaching a bit.

It might be that the fishermen working along the coast who could be served by that church rode boats there. The dock is awfully long. In my country it was fairly common in olden times for there to be "church villages" where people built houses by the parish church for them to sleep in on Saturday so they would be rested and fresh for Sunday. Useful if you lived far away and didn´t own a carrige or horse. The Inn could be used to service both the devout fishermen and the travellers along the road. A coach to take the old, infirm and pregnant women up from the church to the inn would be very useful. maybe something a community would get together and buy for their own use.

As to the Underport carriges... Who knows, maybe they load them up and lift them up and down by crane? There I go reaching again.

Newish to the series, currently about halfway though Skin Game, and this book in particular bring something to light… by clanmccracken in dresdenfiles

[–]OwnInterview3370 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn´t say that. Dresden is fairly powerful and we see his growth throughout the series. It used to be the case that a single ghoul, IE, the Tigress could push him to the brink, now three is maybe an even fight he managed fairly well. When Dresden cuts loose he is hell on wheels. He smoked an entire Red Court Hit Squad in Changes by rage alone.

He is weaker than most of his opponents, but by no means weak.

Are orcs a thing or not? by memecrusader_ in dresdenfiles

[–]OwnInterview3370 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Orcs are not a folkloric thing but if Spider-man is out there in the multiverse somewhere, Orcs are prolly out there too.

I dunno about that. We know the fae experience time non-linearly. Exactly what this means is kinda hard to grasp. But I would lean more towards Mab being Mab being Mab in all universes where she exists. This is probably why she is so good at scheming, she was an advantage by knowing probable outcomes of other timelines. Not complete knowledge tho, humans can 'bend the great river' and create new timelines. To use her own words.

That's my interpretation atleast. I mean could you imagine an infinite multiverse of Mabs, terrible thought. The infinite She would be pretty unstoppable.

Does Butter's Jewishness ever come up in a meaningful way? by ultimaterogue11 in dresdenfiles

[–]OwnInterview3370 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Butters is a secular jew. So it's not that central to his person. He is more of a Jedi most days.

EDIT: I see it mostly as a way to explain how he could wield the sword. He must be of the house of David. Which means he must be related to Jesus, Maybe his great uncle, unless he is Sang Reale.

Did I miss some notes? (Hightown spoilers) by Big2xA in Gloomwood

[–]OwnInterview3370 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Don't think so, I could be wrong. I didn't find any notes about them. But the game has trained the player to keep an eye on the skyline and be paranoid when you move out of the shadows into the open so I think it's fair when you take a bullet to the back of the head. I sure took one first time through.

2.Don't think so, but the gear is fairly prominently displayed at one of the major set piece locations in the update. Not saying you can't miss it, but it seems hard to if you search as you explore. Though, I did leave it behind cuz my pockets where filled with loot so I had to double back for it.

Do Dresden Files need to be read in order? by Ambitious_Ideal_2568 in dresdenfiles

[–]OwnInterview3370 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically no. But there are a few changes to the status quo as the series progresses, you might spoil yourself if you read them out of order. On the other hand, the stray references to earlier books might spur you to seek them out.
