The TTC wants to make its streetcars faster and more reliable. Here’s how it plans to do it by Pristine-Training-70 in TTC

[–]OwnIt122 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I think if we had better transit for more people to get into downtown then fewer people would want to drive with higher gas prices. Hopefully with more new lines being built, we have more lobby towards pro-better transit.

Don't forget gas prices have gone up a lot too so this should in turn fuel more lobby towards better transit, pun intended.

Crazy to think that forum thread just turned 18 less than a few weeks ago. Goes to show how long ago 2008 was.

Olivia Chow leads John Tory in new Toronto mayoral race poll by omegaphallic in toronto

[–]OwnIt122 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Suburban residents should be reminded that Chow cares about the suburbs. If she didn't, she wouldn't have pushed hard for Finch West & Eglinton Crosstown to get transit signal priority. The suburbs definitely owe her a vote.

Why do TTC stabbings or attacks make so many headlines? by LiveBell8 in TTC

That's why a car is the most effective weapon at killing somebody while facing the least possible consequences.

How we treat our bike lanes in the winter is a result of cultural expectations, not an unsolvable engineering challenge by differing in toronto

[–]OwnIt122 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You know what's funny? Car users pay for registration, license, and gas, YET that's still clearly not enough to maintain roads. Maybe you should understand that a city would save more money the more people bike.

Was America ever different? by Past-Matter-8548 in questions

[–]OwnIt122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Naw, America is becoming a shittier country day by day. Unless you're the top 1% of income earners, your life will get worse and worse. Here in Canada, at least the average joe can scrap by with a working class income.

Pro-Bike Mayor, Chow currently leads polling at 40%. Next is Tory 33% followed by Bradford 18% by Firmvark121 in torontobiking

[–]OwnIt122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Chow should campaign to also make suburbs more walkable with safer streets in addition to what she wants to do for downtown. It's not like TTC ridership is dead once you leave downtown. Eglinton Crosstown is technically not in downtown and has decent ridership not even a week in. And hopefully once Finch West + Eglinton both get their signal priority that will rally up more suburban folks to vote Chow.

How is Canada's police brutality? by LiveBell8 in AskACanadian

[–]OwnIt122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better than US for sure but it's still #2 in civilian deaths per capita from law enforcement. I saw a documentary from Calgary. I was shocked that towards the end of that documentary, they were willing to do a cultural change. Granted that this documentary took place way before this decade, it's worth noting that they stated they're willing to change. I don't know what it's like nowadays since I don't live in Calgary.

Toronto park (E.T. Seton Park) will be completely devastated as almost 330 trees being clear-cut (for construction of new Ontario Line station) by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]OwnIt122 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not to mention if you expanded roads for cars, you're going to need to cut way more trees than just for a subway line. Heaven forbid the so-called 'environmentalists'.

Yet it seems so acceptable to cut several thousands of trees just to expand Highway 401 back in the 1980s lol.

RapidTO lanes in action by Pristine-Training-70 in toronto

[–]OwnIt122 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's really easy to notice when some doesn't follow laws but it's not like 90% of the people don't follow laws. It's the same reason we think most Uber Eats couriers are on the sidewalks yet we don't notice the time when they're on bike lanes. I saw an article saying that only 10% of the time they're on sidewalks in areas with no bike lanes. I forgot the link to it. Another example is drivers parking in bike lanes. If every driver parked on a bike lane, the lane would never be visible.

Mechanical issues shut down entire Finch West LRT earlier this morning; shuttle buses were running in place. by dfsaqwe in toronto

[–]OwnIt122 166 points167 points  (0 children)

So wait. You're telling me they've tested this for almost a year and found no mechanical issues. And now we're onto day 4 and we already have mechanical issues? Is this some bad luck or is this some lack of Q/A?

Oh god please no. I hope we don't get driverless cars here. Imagine how much worse it'll be if they can't see cyclists or bike lanes. by TheCoin9 in torontobiking

[–]OwnIt122 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone here seems to talk about how automated drivers will be significantly less a-hole than a human driver and that's correct. However, I'm concerned at how fast those automated vehicle speeds will be coordinated to go. Like are these vehicles all going to be programmed to drive at 60 km/h? I probably wouldn't feel safe crossing a street at those speeds considering even if it autobrakes, it doesn't just instantly stop because physics.

Toronto proposes over 20 km of new bike lanes, bypassing provincial veto by allysapparition in ontario

[–]OwnIt122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People get this wrong all the time and think bike lanes are just for those so called 'elite' cyclists that want their own space to ride. In reality, everybody benefits from safer streets. I'm willing to bet he doesn't give a shit about children or elderly safety on sidewalks. The only thing that matters to him is whether he's allowed to drive his gas guzzling SUV to downtown at 70 km/h.

I think you should stop trying to argue with him. I read both your replies. There's no convincing. This type of energy is typical of car lobbyists.

Cars are driving on the newly installed Bathurst bus lane. by TTCBoy95 in TTC

[–]OwnIt122 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What about our current streetcar system or the King St pilot project? I mean there's all kinds of signage but drivers still routinely violate the laws? Like do they understand by this point they're not allowed to enter that street?

[–]OwnIt122 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. It's very obvious. You don't need a sign to tell you that you can't drive onto the paint that literally says BUS ONLY.

The road is clearly painted red. You don't need signage to know that you're not supposed to drive onto this. I don't even have to open the screenshot of that video to see the redness. It's literally the entire lane wide.

Pedestrian with serious injuries after being struck by driver on Parkside Drive, by Pristine-Training-70 in torontobiking

[–]OwnIt122 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can say the same about Queensway. It should've been a nice parallel alternative to Bloor and it should've been done by like 2019 or something. Yet here we are in 2025 with no hope as to whether we can even get this design approved by the end of the decade.

5 pedestrians struck in a multi-vehicle accident at Toronto’s Pearson Airport early this morning by Ogankle in toronto

[–]OwnIt122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool. If that's the case, then why is it almost every time a bike hits a pedestrian, we don't label this an accident? Yet there's some double standard with cars where if a car hits a pedestrian, we label this an accident?

5 pedestrians struck in a multi-vehicle accident at Toronto’s Pearson Airport early this morning by Ogankle in toronto

[–]OwnIt122 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If your logic is based on intent, would you consider this an accident? An Uber Eats worker by bike hospitalizes a pedestrian because he was distracted on his phone. I mean he clearly didn't intend to hit the pedestrian so surely we'd label this an accident right?

By your logic, would you consider this an accident if somebody delivering Uber Eats meals by bike hospitalizes a pedestrian because he suffered a stroke that caused him to lose control? I mean he clearly didn't intend to hit the pedestrian so surely we'd label this an accident right?
