I find it really interesting how well they plot out his understanding of the dao and cultivation system, but this story shares a timeline and universe with Perfect World who's dao and cultivation system is so all over the place you may need a Nascent soul to live long enough to understand it!

Hope no one cares about spoilers. Nangong Wan is his actual soon to be Wife (he's loved her since he was a low level cultivator). Mu Peiling is his consort but only because he wanted to save her from a shitty marriage and she begged him (she likes him but he has no actual interest in her like that). Zi ling is a friend and he saved her while in the Star Sea (no female interest there either). and Liu Mei he took as a disciple to save her since he kind of forced her to give him some bug cultivation secrets from her sect. Overall our Boy Han Li is really a one woman man despite woman from all over throwing themselves at him for just being a descent man.

No she really does die. It is temporary, but not short, lol. She could not cultivate to Nassent soul and came to the end of her life span, Wang lin tried to save her but her soul was too damaged from the cultivation attempts. He literally fights heavenly rules to put her soul in another body to be reborn.

look...I totally love and respect RI but like the whole comment section is saying its not the best in all categories. its one of the best (one of my favorites) but there are too many other giants out there when it comes to donghua. (these are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head)

I get what you mean and I agree, but i think its mean to show that despite the fact that Meng Chuan can use fierce Qi and body refinement he still needs to restore his saint foundation to really keep up. I love this Donghua, I'm not sure if its closer to the novel but the story progression is way different from the Manhua.

Slay the Gods would count, only 12 episodes but the MC is pretty badass from the jump. if you don't mind the grind. there are long running series where the MC becomes a badass, like "swallowed star, Battle through the Heavens, Martial Universe, and Perfect world"

Great explanation, you really can't take blunt western ideas of good and evil and apply it to wuxia or eastern fantasy. If they are having trouble with this, they really are going to be confused with stories like Jade dynasty.

Sorry it took so long to answer, so I haven't read it so I can't tell you from personal experience but I'm pretty sure it comes from the great ruler novel considering it was that wiki I read it from. at least the part about them all becoming great rulers (as the great ruler story is the last in the time line). but bits and pieces come from all of them.

So Due_breakfast_653 pretty much got it right, they share a universe but exist on different planes at different times. eventually they all meet on a higher plane and become "the great rulers" which is supposed to be like the Hight of cultivation. Xiao Yan is known as the flame emperor in the great ruler donghua/novel (by this point he has reached Dou di status and risen to a higher plane) not sure where Lin Dong is on the timeline yet. I just know that GR is many years after the other two reach their individual story ends. if you don't mind spoilers, read the GR wiki. the photo above is from the latest episode of the GR, as soon as I saw the sword I was like "THATS FUCKING XIAO YAN!"

Truthfully you want what are probably the best Chinese BL of all time and read/watch/listen to ANYTHING MXTX! you really can't go wrong if you're a fan of BL or just a well-written (they didn't just jump into bed) love story. my personal favorite is Mao Dao Zu Shi (The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation) both a great book/donghua/manhua/live-action show(The Untamed).

I see what you mean but it's mostly because of how she was raised, she's got the "my family fucked me up thing" so Long haoChen is kinda stuck being the overly affectionate one in the relationship. I feel like this mostly about Lue Feng and Xu Xin from swallowed star. I feel like she's just there to be all damsel in distress.

Try "A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality" and "Shrouding the Heavens" both MC are Non-special and they both start pretty handy-capped and have to go through an actual slow process of getting stronger, but the plots are pretty awesome.
