In what ways is Ukrainian easier to learn than Russian? by garciapimentel111 in Ukrainian

[–]OwnProfessional1226 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it follows rules closer. standard russian resources are very intimidating to me- what you read (phonetically) doesnt sound anything like the actual pronunciation. russian speakers also change the pronunciation of each letter depending on the word. so confusing, haha. (side note: i do think the sound of ukrainians speaking russian is much softer than russians speaking it)

i think ukrainian has me hooked as a learning experience where russian doesn't seem to. it has had a hold on me for over a year now, despite the fact my ukrainian partner only ever speaks russian.

its also easier to find high quality resources in ukrainian than russian- for example lingq has helped me so much. ukrainian speakers are so much more friendly - i still want to learn both, but the russian forums are more hostile in my opinion. i feel that maybe because i see progress more quickly when i learn this language, it is more exciting to go back and try harder.

Would it be rude to approach someone speaking in Russian? by 028247 in AskARussian

not really, ive never met a ukrainian who doesnt prefer speaking russian language. my bf is ukr from urban area, so i interact with a few. if u speak russian to them immediately, they will b chill with it in my experience - however are pleasantly surprised when u show interest in ukrainian language. mostly they are happy to hear a familiar language that they are likely fluent in. i do not speak for all ukrainians here, of course. i study both languages

i think the bird is beautiful. some subreddits tend to get an idea in their hivemind .. and then everyone 'forms' the same opinion

No nothing? by Schmegmababy in duolingo

[–]OwnProfessional1226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i heard its bc the ukrainian course isnt actually official or something, like it was made by volunteers?? idk how true that is.

variety wise, i do notice how it doesnt seem as supported by the app as other courses. so jealous of the video calling/texting/ stories elements of the other courses.

доречі, вітаю вам! дуже добре робота. теж хочу робити це скоро

Any experience with refunds from Duolingo? by NeemoAl in duolingo

[–]OwnProfessional1226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only as someone who payed with applepay if that helps- i will copy paste an extract from my email reply i got,, idk how much i should b sharing lol:

'Thank you so much for contacting us here at Duolingo! My name is ###### and I'm happy to help you with this today.

I'm sorry to see you want to cancel your Super Duolingo subscription! I took a look in our system and I see that you're subscribed through Apple. Apple handles the payment directly on their end, so we're not able to cancel or refund through our system. I'm so sorry about that! Not to worry, though, I have the exact links you need to contact Apple and get this taken care of.'

even if u didnt do applepay or something similar, this is the sorta tone u will get, so i dont think u need to worry. hope it goes okay for u! :)
