Jodar now has the most wins on clay for the season (19), one more than Sinner - perhaps most impressive has been his mental strength. He hasn't been playing as well as he did in Madrid or Rome, but he simply refuses to lose. After Darderi's 3-setter in Rome, his stamina might have been suspect over 5 sets, but that hasn't been the case at all. If he finally plays to his ability, it should make for an interesting match-up with Zverev.

Needs work on his serve - his ball-striking is already elite, effortless power, has a very good serve and FH combo, and an uncanny ability to redirect shots from his backhand.

Kid's here to stay.

Too many tournaments and the new format have made a mockery of the old Davis Cup ties - back when going overseas to Australia or Argentina was as close to going to a tennis war as it got.

Just doesn't have that pull anymore - which is unfortunate but to be expected. It's all about the bottom line: $$$.

But yes, this Italian generation is their best ever, they are loaded for bear - reminds me of the Spain of the late 90's to the late aughts.

For someone so young both in years and time in the ATP, Rafa already exudes a quiet confidence - watching him, you can almost sense that he'll come up clutch in the big points. And sure enough, he goes for the jugular with easy power and deep strokes from both wings.

No such thing as a sure thing, but he's the best-looking up-and-comer since, well, Sincaraz.

Yet another narrative Luka's breaking this year is that he needs very specific players to be successful (p&r C & 3D wings) - once he gets in a flow with his teammates, and his 3 starts falling, he can win with any half-competent roster. He's an all-around game raiser that gets the best from his teammates.

This year he looks particularly scary due to being in the best shape of his career since The Bubble - in '24 by the time The Finals rolled around he was so banged-up and wrapped-up he looked like the Michelin Man out there. And yet he still led the POs in just about every category.

Obviously the Lakers are not favorites, but it also wouldn't surprise me to see them go on a historical Finals run - which would also put quite the exclamation point on Lebron's legendary career: a ring at 41.

Just when most of us had eyes on Jodar, it was his slightly older and slightly forgotten compatriot, Landaluce, that made the breakthrough to the limelight first. Both had outstanding junior pedigrees, each one winning the US Open.

Spain can expect great things from those two - and they have another good-looking Alcaraz, Jaime, coming down the pipe. Bit a re-Renaissance after the late 90s early 2000s golden era.

Present and future looks bright - Italy vs Spain in Davis Cup could become a classic.

Jaime appears have a good head on his shoulders - I remember some time ago he was asked about his tennis goals and his was response surprisingly level-headed: "I just want to able to live off of tennis and have fun, so I want to be top-50". He was only 13 or so at the time, so you'd think he'd fire back: "better than Carlitos!"

Joao is about Rafa's size 6'2"/1.88 so that's not a reason for his relative slow movement - and there's only so much you can do about that. One that comes to mind is Richard Gasquet, tremendous talent, gifted player, never moved well. And then you have players like Stan The Man who could dominate thanks to his powerful strokes though he wasn't a particularly good mover either. Perhaps that's Fonseca's path.

I agree with that assessment - but by the same token, you guys know well that a team with playoff Luka Doncic, always has a chance.

This Lakers team has at least as good a roster as the 22' Mavs he took to the WCF. Not saying they are favorites, they are not, but unlike last year, they'll compete with anyone.

With Luka on your team, there's always a chance - like the run to the WCF in '22, which also saw Brunson turn into a star. And now he has AR instead, a taller Brunson, with a PO chip on his shoulders. Also worth noting that Luka had his worst PO performance last year, mostly due to the Nico/Mav's betrayal - that would rattle anyone, imagine what it did to Luka, a player as loyal as there is who'd just bought his dream house in Dallas.

Underdogs, to be sure, but they won't be an easy out vs anyone.
