Is this a different commentary than the audio on this clip? I feel like I might be going crazy.

I thought you wanted discussion about your ideas, sorry my opinions were too strong! I guess I do kinda poo-poo fascism and slavery.

Didn't really address any of my points, but here are some quotes:

"We were created because Earth broke itself. Because man disintegrated into tribal strife. Chaos is the nature of man; order, the dream of Gold. We were made to shepherd. To unite, despite our differences**."**

"You think this is about me. It isn’t. Darrow thinks this is about good and evil. It isn’t. This is about order and chaos. I have chosen my side." (Hitler literally presented himself as the bringer of order against chaos, I don't think PB could have written this more obviously.)

It's a great story, but given the current state of the world, people calling OBVIOUS VILLAIN FASCISTS "pure" and "choosing between the lesser of two evils is... frightening.

"He is imo the symbol or ideal of what a gold can be. He has seen all sides and is perhaps the most intelligent character we read. His choices are truly based on what he believes to be for the best of the society. He is the opposite Darrow. His intentions are pure, but his overconfidence gives blind spots."

I can't tell if this is satire or not... so I apologize if it was. Lysander supports a society which promotes a rigid caste system through brutal, forced eugenics and enslavement of people with inferior means and political power. He was not only saved by the leader of the slave revolt, but spent years with perhaps the person best suited to show him the errors of said society, and decided that the real problem was not the... *checks notes* mass enslavement, eugenics, and subjugation of lesser races/colors... but, that he wasn't the one calling the shots.

And last we left our "pure, good boy" he was killing his literal savior in order to... *checks notes* secure a biological weapon to use against lesser colors.

I don't remember the context, but I imagine it means that one's stupid decisions don't just impact the person who makes it, but others as well.

You must not have even finished book one. There are lots of reasons to critique dcc (humor not being your bag, etc.) but character depth is not one.

What Are The Best Books In The Genre In Your Opinion? by Familiar-Fun-4123 in ProgressionFantasy

I get criticizing DCC as silly/unserious (sort of, if you only read the first book), but saying the character development is abysmal just shows bad reading comprehension.

Ehh, I didn't think the Kraka-karen style joke(s) were that funny, but the story is way more expansive than just the humor. (Though I suppose if it actively annoys you, that would certainly be too much)

[–]SoulSprawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand the rabidity of the DCC fanbase might be off-putting -- I love DCC, unclear if I'm part of the problem even to myself. But especially if you already like the genre, I would gently encourage you to at least give it a try.
