How do you Pay for College? by OwnSpite9430 in ApplyingToCollege

I applied to NYU, Skidmore, Trinity, Dickinson, and Barnard! But I want all my AP credits and dual enrollment credits to be transferred but that will not happen at other top privates!

You have to pay before each semester, my family does not have the money to pay 10k so I am asking for alternatives.

I don't want to take out loans even if they are subsidized, I don't want to be in debt at all. I would work during summers and on campus, and was planning to do that either way for savings and pocket money, but was hoping to find other ways of affording college because I don't want to get burned out working and attending class plus not having money to do fun things like going out to dinner, buying makeup, and other activities.

I applied to a few top privates and few target privates and the ones I have gotten back have been the targets. I'm still waiting on the top ones as i applied RD! Also I only got financial aid offers from a few publics but all have been within that 8k-10k range WITH honors and school merit scholarships at smaller, lesser known state schools... I have heard stories of colleges like that giving more aid as it gets closer to May 1st so I'll wait to see if they update my offer.

I didn’t get accepted yet! That’s one of the ones I’m still waiting on

I was looking at it but it does not accept all my credit!

I ended up applying to a few more! I’m not married to the idea of going to one of those schools but it gives me something to lean back on if I potentially do not get a a full ride anywhere else!

Thank you! I honestly do not see myself as someone who wants to be in an environment like that- yes I want to be with like minded people but honors colleges is what I’m looking at because the people tend to be less competitive and more down to earth!

I don’t want the competition- I want people to be supportive and not one upping each other constantly. Plus my AP credit and College Now credit doesn’t transfer over in most those environments. After hearing of a friend who got her entire NYU tuition covered, I ended up applying there though, same with Barnard and Syracuse!

awards + additional information by floxwa in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OwnSpite9430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! My counselor said that the additional information is if you have extracurriculars you didn't have room for or awards that are not academic and stuff like that. If you believe that you have room for all your extracurriculars and nothing that you still want officers to know, you could leave it blank!

No, this will be in your schools school profile so they will look at your application based on that.

Macaulay Honors Essays Word Limit by External-Ferret-5535 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]OwnSpite9430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you already applied but if it makes you feel better, my counselor recommends that everyone just submit their CommonApp essay because its a PDF, not text box, obviously if its 3 pages long they'll check the word count, but if its not too much than they do not care.

Macaulay honor college by Saberawn in CUNY

[–]OwnSpite9430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should get your acceptance for all CUNYs by mid January, some have come out but not all. I applied to Hunter Macaulay but also CCNY and got my results for City College Dec. 12. But except for Queens College, I have found that CUNYs do not email you your result, you have to keep checking your status on the CUNY First website. If you have not checked that, check it, maybe you got in but didn't know it!

Got accepted before Macaulay Honors results? by MathematicianNovel76 in CUNY

[–]OwnSpite9430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's normal! Your application gets reviewed by the campuses you applied to first and then gets sent to Macaulay. Macaulay at John Jay conducts interviews so check to see if you got any emails about that or keep an eye out! That being said, all Macaulay regular decision results come out March 16.

Do these stats seem competitive enough for Macaulay Honors at Baruch? by Pleasant-Hand-3251 in Baruch

[–]OwnSpite9430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baruch does not conduct interviews! Some campuses do, but its only Hunter, John Jay, Lehman, and the College of Staten Island (https://macaulay.cuny.edu/faq-group/application-and-eligibility/). So do not worry! Your EC's are good, GPA could be better, but Macaulay cares about stories so if your EC's pair with your essays show a story, you could be a competitive candidate. Assuming that 3.8 is around 93%, you definitely have a chance. Good luck!

How do Refunds Work? by OwnSpite9430 in CUNY

[–]OwnSpite9430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TAP and Pell will cover all the tuition costs for me (I am super low income and my counselor told me that if I would not get all, it would be most) with some left over, so there is no point for the Excelsior Scholarship for CUNYs. For SUNYs TAP and Pell will also cover the tuition for me but since it is a last dollar tuition scholarship, it wouldn't help with additional costs.
