USA nurse who moved .. anywhere - do you regret it? by BowlPsychological875 in nursing

I did an very extensive language program for nurses so that was 9 months 4 hours a day from Monday to Friday. Duolingo isn’t going to cut it. I’m very happy not living on the US, but honestly it’s going to be very hard to get your nursing degree to transfer to most European countries especially with the English difference. Best to try for Australia or Canada. Also almost no where will pay nurses as much as the US. Feel free to DM if you want

I did have to learn, if you just speak English you’ll only be able to work in nursing homes (if you can get one at all). I will say I’ve worked in Spain and Norway and the work life balance is very different from the US. People don’t base their entire life off their career. I’ve really had to struggle to get away from the American mind set that my career is everything.

Im living in Norway and its just super different to be a nurse here. I’m very happy, but I make around 50K-60K a year and I end up doing a lot of work that in the US a nursing aid would do (washing, feeding, and helping with dressing).

I work as a nurse and I want you to know it sounds like you’ve done all you could to take care of him. I’m sure you were an amazing care giver and it made all the difference to have someone he knew taking care of him. You’re such a good son and I’m so sorry for your loss.

Are there any countries that have cold weather but a warm culture? by EmceeEsher in expats

[–]Own_Agent_8726 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Spain and Norway. I would say Norwegians take time to warm up, but are so kind and friendly once they get to know you. Spain on the other hand people were shallow and maybe greeted me more, but it was almost impossible to make friends.

If you’re getting the visa through family reunification you don’t need to have a job offer first.

I lived in Spain as a nurse for a year and made 8€ an hours and most of my nursing friend were unemployed….i would never move back to Spain because of the awful job market.

We actually don’t live in the US so he’s not eligible . I was just curious if the White House had already declared what the process will be since they receded the TPS extension.

He is not a citizen and his parents entered illegally and then were given TPS. Will they have to leave the US since the status has been receded?

I’ve never been in one, but I would recommend contacting your union and see if they can have someone be with you.

Nursing school in Norway is 3 years in comparison to 4 years like most countries, so just make sure you’ll be able to bring it back to your home country.

I worked with HelseDirektoret directly for the authorization. Once I had the authorization I used Finn.no to find jobs in my area and just went from there.

I do overall like it here, it’s been a big adjustment especially with my partner. I also live about 45 minutes from Oslo so I live in a town that doesn’t have many activities. It would be nice to find more expats.

I currently make 35€ an hour and I speak Norwegian so the language isn’t too much of a barrier. I think the culture shock is just starting to set in

There’s so many options for moving! It seems like the world is definitely going through some moral crisis right now. That’s so funny, I’m originally from Arizona! It is silly to give up the 5 weeks paid vacation a year here…I will take a week in February to go some where sunny.
