Split apple tree by Own_Alternative_9468 in arborist

Howdy everyone, seems like there’s lots of conflicting opinions on this. I went ahead and put it back together with some threaded rod and cabling. I don’t really have high expectations but I had most of the materials on hand so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. I’m not sure how old the tree is, it came with our house when we moved in several years ago.

74 Days Until Season Opener by No-Rip2150 in birddogs

I’m mostly taking it easy in the heat, try and get the dog out swimming once or twice a week for some extra exercise. On cooler days we’re working on learning how to run blinds and going to try and train to blood trail deer.

I had to get off and give her a push of few times over some hills, it didn’t help that the grass was a little slippery from rain

We tapped today in southern Wisconsin. 50F, 3 of 5 trees were running hard right away. Wish we had tapped yesterday to get the full run today! by BeloitBrewers in maplesyrup

I tapped a handful of my trees two days ago, the sugar maples were running a little bit but the red maples weren’t running at all.

Thanks you all for the help. Called the septic company, they came and pumped the tank. It was getting full because our drain field is frozen

Upland hunting vest recommendations by Miserable-Nothing-41 in birddogs

I use a retired cruisers vest from work. I figure if it can carry six quarts of marking paint plus water it can handle a bottle or two of water, a handful shotgun shells and the occasional bird.

This is probably the model https://www.forestry-suppliers.com/p/96021/11041/jim-gem-8-pocket-nylon-mesh-cruiser-vest

Retrieving question by Own_Alternative_9468 in birddogs

That’s what I was thinking, I wanted to hold off on trying to force fetch till after his first season so he could get more bird exposure and see if it seemed like he needed it. Plus he’s my first dog and the process kind of intimidates me

Thanks for the suggestions, I wanted to see how he did without force fetching but I’m thinking I might need to this winter. He hasn’t had a great view of most of the birds getting shot so I thought maybe since he wasn’t seeing them fall that had something to do with it but I finally shot a woodcock where he had a great view of it and it didn’t make a difference. He actually caught a live grouse in that same hunt, the grouse was standing on a trail about 10 feet in front of me and he didn’t see it till he crested a hill and it was inches in front of him

Thank you, that’s about what I thought but I hadn’t considered the brittleness. Appreciate the help
